Why won't Joel Osteen talk about sin and repentance? Has anyone ever heard him do so?

I agree.

He’s not preaching “old-time” religion, but if he leads people back to God that’s a good thing.

He must be doing something right; his ministry is growing and prospering.

If we say we're "followers" of Christ

Osteen is a follower of Christ? You could have fooled me. He rarely mentions His name, in an effort to stay as generic as possible to expand his audience, and more importantly, his earnings for himself and his wackjob wife.

Marie2: “He's a health and wealth disciple?”

But, he has big church!

Truthfully, I've never paid much attention to the guy, because at times when I'm channel surfing I see his wife on stage, preaching. And no, that isn't Biblical.

This is one of the best critiques of Osteen that I have seen. It is by an up-and-coming Calvinist Pastor out of Seattle, Mark Driscoll. He’s a little edgier than most Pastors, and looks more like a mixed martial artist than a Pastor ... but his theology is dead-on (even when he addresses more controversial subjects as in his series on married relations and the Song of Solomon).

Snare drums. LOL! Too much of it is a rock concert. Oddly some of the best music written in history was for churches or preformed in churches.

Names like Handel, Bach, Mozart to name a few. Sure beats Christian rock easy listening ear wash. If Mozart’s Mass in D (Requiem) does not get your head on straight about why you are there at church - then nothing will.

Not as appealing as Osteen promising the angels will descend with your new 7-series BMW.

It is not as if all Christian pastors are beyond reproach. Regardless of her signup date — the critique seems fair.

Yes it was strange. Manning never quoted any scripture, never opened a Bible at all. No gospel whatsoever, or reference to anything in the Bible.

More like drawing attention to himself. Kind of like the “reverends” al sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

I suspect he is so venerated by “our side” because he lambastes the left, not because he is any kind of authentic gospel preacher.

The thing that bugs me is there are a lot of good pastors and priests who struggle with smaller congregations and they do not have a marketing department and expensive time on the satellite like Osteen’s Prosperity hour. OSteen is about $$$.

I’ve never met Joel although I knew his Dad, John...

The point being that prasiolite, named for a gem, does not have a posting history, and this is his first post and he goes straight to attacking Christian pastors...

Wonder what religion he is ???

There are good pastors in small churches, and in mega-churches. There are bad pastors in small churches, and in mega-churches.

I’m not sure Osteen is all about money ... he seems to be all about his own popularity. Even the logo of the church is a Methodist flame with an “O” (for Osteen) around it (still no cross). So, he doesn’t say anything offensive — ever. If a preacher never offends anyone, he isn’t doing his job.

His “attack” was from a Christian perspective, and was a reasonable critique. Even if he isn’t a Christian, the critique is nonetheless fair.

I don’t really care much about post history or signup dates — everybody’s got to start somewhere. If I agree with the content, I agree with the content ... whether its post 1, or post 10,000.

Yes, yes, and yes!

These folks use Christianity like Jimmy and Tammy Baker, Swaggart, and the “Crystal Cathedral” con-man Robert Schuller to make a grandiose living.

Blame the idiots who empty their pockets and make these scoundrels millionaires.
