Talk about a lack of piety. Long Island cops say they've caught a woman robbing congregants during church.
Patricia Adams saw an opportunity during services at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church – and it wasn't for worship. While a devout parishioner knelt down in prayer, the 46-year-old leaned over a church pew and stole cash from her purse, police said. An usher saw her do it and called the cops.
Cops arrested Adams as she left the church yesterday morning. They recovered the stolen goods and returned them to the unsuspecting victim.
This wasn't the first time Adams lifted money off a hapless worshipper, however. In May, the Westbury woman jacked cash from a purse left on a pew by a woman who was receiving communion, cops said.
Adams was charged with two counts of petit larceny and released on an appearance ticket for a later court date.
If anyone else thinks they may have been victimized by the church thief, detectives urge them to call 573-6354.
When I was a teenager, our pastor warned us not to leave our purses in the pew when we went to Communion. He said that there were thieves in the Church. I remember how shocked I was to hear him say that.

Isn’t it “petty” larceny?
I was in a church in Spain once when gypsy women invaded it and literally ripped pocketbooks out of the hands of the little old ladies in the back. Most of the younger people were in the front, for some reason, but an ancient sacristan came out of the back and, accompanied by some of the younger men and women, drove the gypsies off.
Guess what they screamed when they were leaving? “Racistas, racistas!” (Gypsies claim that Spaniards are racists, and I guess protecting grannies from having their handbags ripped out of their hands qualified as racist.)
They’re lucky they weren’t beaten to a pulp.
Such should, IMO, be a valid response to such.
Spanish men don’t usually hit women, so once the gypsies left the church, the mass went on as usual. In fact, it had never stopped, because priests are forbidden to stop the mass once they have started it.
"Petit" is French for "small," and is roughly pronounced "petty."
I don’t usually hit women either... but somethings are UNACCEPTABLE.
IE that’s such an injustice they were perpetrating they should have FELT the consequences of their actions physically. (IMO, of course.)
The sad thing is that so many Spaniards are afraid of being called “racists” that they never fight back. The women were clearly aware of this, which is why they immediately started to scream, essentially, that they were victims of discrimination.
Yeah, right, like any Spanish junkie would have been allowed to come into the church and rip off the bags from the abuelitas. Now a Spanish junkie might actually have been beaten seriously and even have gotten a few knife sticks (Spaniards always carry knives, and good Spaniards know how to use them).
We have a retired CIA agent in our congregation and he has warned me about leaving my purse in the pew.
Since then, I sit more to the front — So that someone would have to walk a long way and then walk a long way to get out.
But, the former CIA guy keeps reminding me to take my purse to Communion with me.
We recently had some money stolen by a kid on a red bike during the Daily Mass — guess who I told about it?? LOL! His remark to me was “My weapon is in the car.” I told him not to worry about his weapon, just to call the police.

I wonder where they learned THAT trick.
Who says America doesn’t export anything anymore?
I know that, but it isn’t used in “American” Engish. Perhaps the author is French Canadian.
