Statement by Father John Jenkins on the Laetare Medal... and that's it.
The following statement from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, is in response to the decision by Mary Ann Glendon to decline acceptance of the Universitys Laetare Medal:
We are, of course, disappointed that Professor Glendon has made this decision. It is our intention to award the Laetare Medal to another deserving recipient, and we will make that announcement as soon as possible. (University of Notre Dame Office of News & Information)

President Obama is disappointed by former Ambassador Mary Glendons decision, but he looks forward to delivering an inclusive and respectful speech at the Notre Dame graduation, a school with a rich history of fostering the exchange of ideas. While he is honored to have the support of millions of people of all faiths, he does not govern with the expectation that everyone sees eye to eye with him on every position, and the spirit of debate and healthy disagreement on important issues is part of what he loves about this country.

Only you would come up with that. Magnificent!
You forgot to include Barney Frank.
You forgot to include Barney Frank.
Paging Judas... 30 pieces of silver are up for grabs.
The Notre Dame should recant or be renamed Une Autre Dame (French, loosely “Some Other Lady”).
Doug Kmiec would be happy to accept the award in which case it should be renamed as the Apostate of the Year award.
Fr. Jenkins has apparently turned in his shovel and taken out the bulldozer.
Stop digging Father!
The Federal government has nothing to do with investigations into priest abuse, so That One has nothing 'on' Fr. Jenkins. Jenkins is doing this because he thinks it's the 'sophisticated' thing to do, inviting the first Black President. He doesn't care that That One is virulently pro-abortion, he's the 'cool guy' and his is an 'historic Presidency'. Jenkins thought it would make Notre Dame look good by scoring That One for the Commencement.
I'm sure there are lots of families of kids who are graduating from ND this year who will be thrilled to have That One deliver the address, and received an honorary Diploma, for the same reason Jenkins issued the invitation. They are more concerned about how THEY will be perceived by their friends and associates than about the state of their, or their childrens', everlasting souls.
According to a Vatican spokesman last week, the Vatican has NOT rejected Caroline Kennedy, because That One's administration hasn't appointed her.
I'm wondering if it was a trial balloon.
Good cartoon. Fr. Jenkins is a disgrace.
Perhaps Obama will suggest Michelle. She’s been First Lady for 100 days now and they haven’t awarded her anything yet.
In that case, it’s even worse than I thought. Thank for the eye opener, SuziQ
Notice, tho, that she said ^nothing^ regarding a position on abortion. Her declination was based purely on "the declarations of men". To wit that RC universities should not "provide...honors"to those who do not uphold the values of the Church.
Glendon, in summary, said, if you won't uphold the edicts of the bureaucracy, She won't participate. (CF my XPian News article regarding "Institutionalization of the LCMS", 2004)
You said it. He or she will be giving a de facto endorsement of the culture of death.
oh, good grief...
I think Jerry Seinfeld would have called Fr. Jenkins a “Re-gifter”.
This is like Ambassador Glendon thowing the award in the trash can, and Jenkins picking it out and giving it to the next recipient.
(Im reminded of the episode where George Costanza picks up the half-eaten Eclair out of the kitchen garbage can)
