Obama's messianic jargon hits 'rock' bottom ...and G'town removes the Holy Name (Ecumenical)
Dawn Patrol Blog ^ | 4/14/2009 | Dawn Eden

At Georgetown University today, while sitting in the press section at Gaston Hall awaiting the arrival of President Obama for a "major address" on economics, I overheard a reporter discussing the advance text of the speech.

The reporter said that senior presidential adviser David Axelrod had compared Obama during his European trip to one planting seeds for a harvest. Along the same lines, he noted, in today's speech, Obama was set to use another Gospel analogy: that of the "house built upon a rock."

And so it came to pass, beneath Gaston Hall's beautiful painting of Morality, Faith, and Patriotism, with gold letters on the wall behind him spelling the Jesuit motto "Ad majorem Dei gloriam"—"To the greater glory of God"—Obama shared his prosperity gospel at the nation's oldest Catholic university.

But there was one thing missing: Jesus' name.

I'm not just talking about Obama's failing to mention Jesus—though he did pointedly fail to mention the name of the One—that is, for him, the other "One"—who first told the "parable" he shared.

No, Jesus' very name, in the form of the ancient monogram IHS, which had been in gold lettering on the wooden archway above Gaston Hall's dais, was painted over prior to Obama's arrival. Apparently, the Name that is above every other name is not permitted to be above Obama.

The photo [above] shows the archway "before." You can see the "after" clearly in C-SPAN's video, as Georgetown President John DeGioia emerges to give his fawning introduction....

"AFTER" photo with a bit more perspective - also shows that they put up a blue backdrop to hide the gorgeous backdrop of this architectural gem of a lecture hall:

They’re Jesuits — an entirely different breed of Catholics.

I remember when they were called "the Marines of the Catholic Church."

While they are changing the interior decor of their hosts, maybe Obama's staff could further dress up their interior design by adding about 20 of these, after they've been highly glazed in fluorescent colors.

(at least that would be a marked improvement in their class, style, and taste.)

All I can keep praying is that God is watching this man very closely and protecting the religious, God loving, faithful believers in this country who are forced to endure him as our president.

However, I do wonder, in this instance...if taking the IHS from the structure that peers above the blue backdrop might have been a good idea. Had it not been done it might have looked as though it was placed over Obama's head and so that it would not offend the Catholics had it seemed to refer to Obama under it, the college decided to remove it for his speech.

But why he gave that speech there in the first place is my gripe. Why not from his own darn office? Does he know where that is yet?

I’m still aghast, but you have a posted a great remedy for this travesty, in Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus. Thanks.

The Jesuits are reforming themselves. Please pray for them.

Georgetown, like Notre Dame, was “liberated” from control of the Church after Vatican II. It is no longer a “Jesuit institution” but rather a University “in the Jesuit tradition.” Which is to say, nothing Catholic about it anymore. Obviously, since they are ashamed of the Name of Jesus.

One can only hope. Evil seedlings sprang up in the Jebbie garden about 40 years ago. May they be cut down soon.

It doesn't look like it was painted over. From the pictures it looks like there is a fitted piece of fabric over it.

Two alternate explanaitons:

1. The have a piece of fitted fabric prepared for certain stage setups of the hall. Obama's visit fit that setup criteria.

2. The school didn't want a "light from heaven" moment by giving anyone the chance to take a picture with Obama standing at the lecturn and the title of Christ seemingly referring to him.

Of course, the most likely scenario is that Georgetown hasn't been a Catholic school in the purest sense for a long time and has become part and parcel of the liberal universities in America. The school didn't want to offend anyone with offensive religious imagery from the offensive belief in Jesus Christ.

Georgetown is about as Catholic as Notre Dame!

I can’t believe that Georgetown allowed this to happen.

And why not? The first lay president of the University, John deGioia, apologized to offended feminist faculty who flounced off the stage during a recent graduation because the speaker, an African bishop, dared to speak in favor of traditional sexual morality. Georgetown accepted millions in Saudi money to build its "Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding" -- in other words, "We Own You Now, dhimmies!" The director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, John Voll, has been an outspoken supporter of that Muslim broadcaster dude in New York who recently beheaded his wife. During Lent of this year, Georgetown had a "Sex Positive" festival on campus, during which experts in such subjects as anal sex had a teach-in. Georgetown's freshman dorms are co-ed -- girls and boys away from home for the first time not only in the same dorm, but on the same floor. What's left for Georgetown to mock other than Jesus himself?

Georgetown University needs an exorcism.

One of the strangest things about Georgetown, which was built in an area of Washington that was once virtually farmland, is the Jesuit cemetery smack in the middle of all the huge buildings that have sprung u on the campus -- a gigantic parking garage near the hospital and medical school, a huge student center, an enormous dormitory, etc. It looks so out of place. One can only hope that some of those heathens in the administration will be haunted by the bones spinning in those graves.
