God Is Back

Do you regard the Easter weekend as a religious festival rather than just an opportunity to pick up bargains at the mall and stuff yourself with chocolate? Do you attend church on a Sunday rather than just lounging in bed? Do you sometimes pray or read the Bible? And do you believe in God or life after death?

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then, according to some of the greatest minds that Europe has produced, you really ought not to exist. From the 18th century onwards a succession of European sages predicted that modernization would produce the end of religion.

The deeper reason why God is back is that the American religious model is spreading around the world: religious establishments are being weakened and upstart religious groups are using all the tools of modernity, from megachurches to radio and television to spread the world.

Voltaire predicted that Christianity would wither as man became more enlightened. Marx argued that religion was a tool of ruling class exploitation that would disappear with the birth of a classless society. Nietzsche proclaimed that “God is dead. God will remain dead. And we have killed him”.

The answer to Time magazine’s question back in 1966 — Is God Dead? — is thus an emphatic “no”. God has not only survived the acids of modernity. He has learned how to use the tools of modernity to spread His message.

The irony is that godless society is now collapsing. It kills its own children, becomes soft and intellectually vacuous in its hedonistic focus, and has disarmed itself in the face of Islamic aggression. Christianity will survive the wreck of the West. But atheism is going to face tough sledding in Europe and elsewhere as it jettisons the intellectual foundations and physical security provided by the biblical worldview. Now is not a good time to be rejecting God...

Newweak declared Christianity dead this week. Must be true.

Of course, when trying to promote Obama, Newsweak had a gag-inducing cover-story about "Obama's Christian Journey"

physical security provided by the biblical worldview.

What physical security are you referring to?

Ive been participating in a cross-walk that reenacts the stations of the cross on Good Friday for the last 25 years and has stops at 3 different Christian Churches. The numbers have never been higher.

It is interesting that, according to the article, 16% of Russians and 15% of Americans are atheists.

Forty years of communist bludgeoning and we’re in a dead heat.

That's a very good look at the last 30 or 40 years from the authors of The Right Nation: Conservative Power in America.

But does it describe what will happen in the future? Has the wave (for the time being) already crested?

Now, more than ever, is the time to be seeking God.

What physical security are you referring to?

I have in mind that a biblical worldview (1) gives meaning to life, so it is worth fighting for some things. Nothing is really worth fighting and dying (or killing) for in secular humanism. (I do conceded that communism gave people a belief system that motivated them to fight, kill and die - but that is starkly lacking in secular humanism, so I must narrow the focus of my comments accordingly.)

Second, according to Romans 13, authorities are empowered by God and have the power of the sword to protect people from evildoers. Thus Christianity provides physical security to people against lawlessness and evil. In secular humanism we see an erosion of this security as the law becomes corrupted by postmodernism and 'therapy' replaces the biblical themes of punishment and restitution.

I've spent a lot of time the last few years enjoying 19th century British authors, and the contrast between the energy and convictions and confidence of the British empire of that era and modern secular British apathy and lack of self-confidence or purpose is stunning.

If you haven't read the three-part series about Obama's Christian Ruse at American Thinker, please do. This series clearly exposes Obama's Christian faith for what it is and isn't.

Obama's Religious Ruse: 'I've Always Been a Christian'
Obama's Religious Ruse: His 'Conversion'
Obama's Religious Ruse: The Cult of the Marxist Messiah

Before the election, I sent these articles to every Christian I knew. Every single person who read them responded that any Christian who would still vote for Obama after reading this information was blind.

I believe the answers to your questions are yes and no, respectively. Here's a relevant excerpt from the article.

The deeper reason why God is back is that the American religious model is spreading around the world: religious establishments are being weakened and upstart religious groups are using all the tools of modernity, from megachurches to radio and television to spread the world. Pentecostalism is spreading like wildfire around the world, with more than 500 million adherents. Five of the world’s ten biggest megachurches are in South Korea. There is even an upsurge of Evangelical Christianity in Europe.

Do you think that Russia or the U.S. should have more atheists coming out of that forty years?

I don't think that not believing in the Bible automatically makes you a "secular humanist", but it seems that it is the blanket term that is being applied to all non-belief, never mind that many atheists like Ayn Rand have been critics of humanism.

I heard a woman on our local talk radio station also use it this morning as she railed against the "secular humanists" who don't believe in the Christian God, so I don't know if this is a new phenomenon or not.

I can also assure you that with or without God, my life, family, fellow man, and freedom are all quite worth dying (or killing) for.
