Vatican confirms that Pelosi will have audience with the Pope [The Rest of the Story]
Catholic News Agency ^ | 2/16/09

Posted on 02/17/2009 9:09:38 AM PST by Antoninus

The press office made clear that the Pope will meet with Pelosi in his capacity as a head of state since the Speaker of the House is the third in line to lead the U.S., should the president and vice president be unable to do so.

The idea of providing Pelosi with a photo-op has disturbed a significant number of U.S. Catholics and pro-life activists...

Over this past weekend pro-life activists and bloggers launched verbal salvos against the Vatican because they believe that the Holy See plans to present Nancy Pelosi with an award.

This is definitely not true, the Vatican’s press office told CNA. The idea that Pelosi would be awarded by the Vatican most likely is the result of activists confusing the visit to the Vatican with the Speaker of the House being awarded by a group of Italian legislators for being the first Italian American to reach such a high rank in the U.S. government.

I don’t understand the issues some people have with the Pope. I’m not even Catholic and even I know that Popes meet with all sorts of distasteful individuals and have for as long as I can remember.

I wasn’t thrilled with Robert Mugabe sitting his evil butt in the front row for John Paul’s funeral but the Vatican wasn’t going to kick him out and make a scene. For the most part they try to remain above politics and politicization of Vatican dealings is something we do, not them.

I am just mad because he’s being used as a photo op by this callous witch.

He’s meeting her as a head of state, which is just and correct, as she is a head of state. He’s had to meet worse, I’m sure.

But, for selfish purposes of the USA, I hope he publically makes it clear that he disapproves of her and her policies. Unlike when dealing with Arabs, where harsh words would get people killed, she’d a weak politician.

He could cow her.

Yes, he meets with heads of state, but that doesn't mean a Pope can't lay down the law. Remember the leftist priest smackdown in Nicaragua?:

Me, too! I'm just afraid if he doesn't make a public statement, she'll utterly distort the meeting and -- of course! -- the media will splash her version all over. But, I guess, if I know that, the Pope does too!

It’s not selfish to hope for the thwarting of the baby butchery crowd! I think it’s a little weird that she has this meeting with the Pope right after she opened her yap again about life issues... it’s ‘probly stupid conspiracy stuff but I wonder how long this Italian politician meeting has been on her Speakerness’s agenda.

This is not the first time the Pope has done strange things. What's going on? I thought the head of the church should have strong convictions and adhere to gospel principals as was given by God.

The Pope only cares about political and religious P O W E R and gaining more, by associating with/influencing those who have it. Pelosi is a disgrace; she supports every kind of abortion imaginable including sucking the brains out of children 7/8ths of the way out of the birth canal. Pelosi is directly responsible for the disgraceful abortion policy of the American government and she willfully, vocally, politically has and is doing everything within her power to see that it continues and flourishes. The blood of millions are upon her hands. The Pope, knows ALL OF THIS and rather than vocally condemning, excommunicating her and holding her accountable as a "Roman Catholic" he shows his true colors and motives and chooses instead to meet with her.

If he were a genuine man of God, and not a religious charlatan he would be bringing down the hammer upon her and her wickedness. But like I said; his actions speak louder than words, all he cares about is P O W E R and associating with those who have it. That is exactly what this audience with her is all about. Interestingly enough, this is the exact same stand Rome took regarding Democratic politicians who were actively participating in and condoning all kinds of wickedness prior to the last election. Rather than vocally condemning them, refusing them communion and excommunicating them and holding them spiritually accountable as a "Roman Catholics" Rome showed its true colors and motives and chooses instead to give them all a pass.

The pope may decry abortion, etc…, but when the rubber meets the road, talk is cheep.

Remember, it is all about P O W E R, money and influence. That is the reason why he is meeting with Pelosi... she is politically powerful and influential.

Please, your assessment is ridiculous and ludicrous. The “pope” is not some weak, addled brained adolescent who is totally incompetent, being taken advantage of and mislead. He knows exactly who and what Pelosi is but instead of roundly condemning her and excommunicating her he is meeting with her anyway because it is all about P O W E R and associating with those who have it.

Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells is a beautiful piece of music. I’ve never seen the Exorcist, but I’ll tell you, I had Tubular Bells on 8-Track when I was a teenager and listened to it all the time. In fact, it is now stored on my phone as a potential ringtone, albeit not active at the moment.

It may be impossible to hear it and not think about the movie, but I heard the music without seeing its use in context and that has made all the difference.

The Church is not usually inclined to turn away those who come knocking at its door, even if they are Pharisees whose intentions are less than honorable.

Jesus himself ate with tax collectors and prostitutes and debated with the Pharisees on a number of occasions.

The Pope is a courteous, humble man who usually offers hospitality to those who request a hearing.

Thank you. Those who criticize the Pope for not adhering to Gospel values do not seem to understand the Gospels very well. Yes, Jesus did eat with many that he disagreed with. As my favorite priest always says, “the church is not a shrine for the saints, it is a hospital for the sinners.”

I’m still waiting for them to actually do something about allowing pro-abortion leaders to take communion, or even be in the church for that matter, you know like Teddy.

Since you obviously are omniscient, tell us what sentence was meted out to you during your particular judgment for all of the bearing of false witness you engage in.

If this is what she wore, she is not dressed properly to see the Pope.

In black with something over her head.

There was a beautiful picture of Laura Bush when they visited the Pope.
