He’ll definitely be an improvement over Cardinal Egan, but it would have seemed just if Bishop Mansell, a native, and Cardinal O’Connor’s pick were to have become archbishop.

although other American prelates would have preferred a stronger personality to take on the Obama Administration’s animus towards Catholics

Huh??? Which "other American prelates"? None spring to mind . . .

I’d rather see Abp. Chaput in New York. Well, really, I wanted to see him in Washington, D.C., but New York would be good, too.

If Abp. Burke wasn’t at the Apostolic Signatura, he’d be my first choice.

They didn't pick Obama? There will be some disappointment.

A former NAC (North American College) seminarian, now a priest says:

"Dolan's nickname is DARF - the sound he makes when he chuckles, which he does a lot .... He's the typical NACer graduate Bishop: a back-slapping, glad-handing politician."

Sounds as if he'll be as effective communicating with Obama as George What's-His-Name out in San Fran has been in his legendary "dialogue" with Pelosi.

Ecce sacerdos magnus in American English is apparently translated Trite, Bright and Inoffensive.

Was this the happy and sad announcement you had hinted at?

He will be a serious upgrade and he’s now gotten a taste of what it’s like to clean out a rats’ nest. I pray he will have the fortitude to shepherd NYC during the era of the Obamanation.

I’ll always be thankful to God for Egan’s spot on response to the Pelosi abortion comments episode. It was Spirit filled.

I hope Dolan will be just as forceful
