SSPX leader: Jews are "a people of deicide" (2nd priest speaks out)
The Deacon's Bench ^ | January 29, 2009 | Deacon Greg Kandra

Posted on 01/30/2009 10:12:00 AM PST by NYer

Another member of the SSPX has decided to share his thoughts about the Holocaust with the world:

In the wake of a global furor triggered by Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to lift the excommunication of four traditionalist Catholic bishops, including one who cast doubt on the Holocaust, another leader in the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X has questioned whether the Nazis used gas chambers for anything other than “disinfection,” and said that people who hold revisionist views on the Holocaust are not anti-Semites.

Fr. Floriano Abrahamowicz, a pastor and spokesperson for the Society of St. Pius X in northeastern Italy, also referred to Jews as “a people of deicide,” referring to the death of Christ, and suggested that the Jewish Holocaust has been “exalted” over what he called “other genocides,” such as the Allied bombing of German cities and the Israeli occupation of the Gaza strip.

On the other hand, Abrahamowicz insisted that the traditionalist movement founded by the late French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre is not “anti-Semitic.” Among other things, Abrahamowicz said, he himself has Jewish roots on his father’s side.

The comments came in a Jan. 29 interview with the Italian newspaper La Tribuna di Treviso.

I can’t imagine what the Pope was thinking when he deciding to start embracing this band of nutcases. And I don’t want to hear about how it’s just a few atypical wackos within SSPX who are spouting this crap. If the SSPX leadership didn’t sympathize with their views, they’d be promptly expelled from the organization when they spout this crap.

And he said this AFTER the excommunication had been lifted. What is going on with these people?

Yeah, that’s pretty darn bad.

This comes so fast after that rehabilitation, if Benedict doesn’t say something about this, it looks like he is totally fine with it

“people who hold revisionist views on the Holocaust are not anti-Semites”

Yikes.

With a gazillion members, you're always going to find some that are off the reservation.

Regarding 'deicide' - I suppose we are all guilty of that one. Christ came to save the lost and HE died for sinners. We are ALL sinners, and by HIS righteous blood we are washed clean ('whose blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel' -- namely grace and mercy).
If one weren't a sinner he could claim innocence -- but that's a null set...

From the interview:

What do you think? About the gas chambers, I mean.

Truly, I don’t know. I know that gas chambers existed at least for disinfection, but I don’t know if they were used to kill people or not, because I haven’t studied the question.

So he has "studied" the Nazis' use of gas chambers for "disinfection", but hasn't gotten around to "studying" whether they were used to kill people? Uh huh. Interesting choice of study priorities.

This gentleman talks as if nobody other than Jews would be capable of crucifying Christ.

If I may be so bold, I would suggest that Fr. Abrahamowicz would be fully as capable of doing so, and probably for the same sorts of reasons.

And, for that matter, I can think of situations where most of the rest of us Christians might do so as well.

The Crucifixion was a result of mankind's sinfulness, and was not simply due to the actions of the members of a particular religion. In our various sinful ways, we all crucify Christ, every day.

This priest does not sound like someone who accepts the teaching of Nostra Aetate on the rejection of “collective guilt” of Jews. The Magisterium has stated in one of the most authoritative ways (a decree of an Ecumenical Council approved by the Pope) that collective guilt is to be rejected, so Catholics should follow this teaching, regardless of what some theologians in the history of the Church may have said in the past.

Christ had to die. It was part of God's plan. To blame the Jews for killing Christ is akin to blaming God for his plan.

Go to Yad Vishem and visit the Records Room Faddah. The NAZIS kept meticulous records. They thought they were going to get away with it.

So, Zyklon B (hydrogen cyanide) was a disinfectant? In the minds of the Nazis, I guess you could make that leap - Jews were no more than "pests" to them. The Final Solution was no more than a termite tent in the Nazis' grand vision.

I’m not the one who needs to study this issue. I know that no sane person who has ever studied it (and there are many thousands) has concluded that there is even a remote possibility that the Nazis were not using gas chambers to purposefully exterminate Jewish prisoners, and that’s enough for me. Anyone who advances a claim that “disinfection” might have been the purpose of the gas chambers is either rabidly anti-Jewish or dangerously mentally ill, or both. And I’m beginning to think the Pope is mentally ill, because I can’t fathom any other reason for his decision to lend credibility to this wacko SSPX outfit.

The piles of murdered Jews were photographed; the photos survived. Apparently Satan has clouded the eyes of the Holocaust deniers of any stripe.

From Vatican II Ecumenical Council Declaration "Nostra Aetate":

True, the Jewish authorities and those who followed their lead pressed for the death of Christ;(13) still, what happened in His passion cannot be charged against all the Jews, without distinction, then alive, nor against the Jews of today. Although the Church is the new people of God, the Jews should not be presented as rejected or accursed by God, as if this followed from the Holy Scriptures. All should see to it, then, that in catechetical work or in the preaching of the word of God they do not teach anything that does not conform to the truth of the Gospel and the spirit of Christ.

Furthermore, in her rejection of every persecution against any man, the Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel's spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone.

Besides, as the Church has always held and holds now, Christ underwent His passion and death freely, because of the sins of men and out of infinite love, in order that all may reach salvation. It is, therefore, the burden of the Church's preaching to proclaim the cross of Christ as the sign of God's all-embracing love and as the fountain from which every grace flows.

The Pope lifted their excommunication. He hasn’t been buying their books.

The SPXX may be revisionist whackjobs, BUT they are no longer schismatic. That is what the original excommunication was about.
