Rest in peace!
We have lost one of Christianity’s greatest voices. May the Lord welcome him into His kingdom.
Very sad.
We have lost one of the good guys. May God bless him. And may God continue to bless ‘First Things’ his extraordinary journal which is a constant source of inspiration.
Well done thou good and faithful servant. He was a great man and I was praying for him all morning because I knew he was probably dying this morning.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace in the arms of our Lord.
May his memory be eternal.
God rest his soul. A truly great man.
Rest In Peace.
Thanks for the ping. He was one of the best. May he rest in peace.
May he rest in peace.
Father Neuhaus, pray for us.
This is very sad news. I, like so many others, was devastated when JPII passed away. It was Father Neuhaus’ commentary on EWTN that helped me keep my sanity during the papal election that ensued. (Let’s just say the mainstream media was driving me loopy!)
And, if you haven’t already, you should read Father Neuhaus’ book “Catholic Matters”. It should be required reading for all Catholics.
I will pray a rosary for him this evening.
Welcome home faithful servant.
Almighty God, we remember before you today your faithful servant Richard; and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of larger life, you will receive him more and more into your joyful service, that, with all who have faithfully served you in the past, he may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord, AMEN.
From First Things this morning (http://www.firstthings.com/article.php3?id_article=5312):
Richard John Neuhaus, 1936-2009
Fr. Richard John Neuhaus slipped away today, January 8, shortly before 10 oclock, at the age of seventy-two. He never recovered from the weakness that sent him to the hospital the day after Christmas, caused by a series of side effects from the cancer he was suffering. He lost consciousness Tuesday evening after a collapse in his heart rate, and the next day, in the company of friends, he died.
My tears are not for himfor he knew, all his life, that his Redeemer lives, and he has now been gathered by the Lord in whom he trusted.
I weep, rather for all the rest of us. As a priest, as a writer, as a public leader in so many struggles, and as a friend, no one can take his place. The fabric of life has been torn by his death, and it will not be repaired, for those of us who knew him, until that time when everything is mended and all our tears are wiped away.
Funeral arrangements are still being planned; more information about the funeral will be made public shortly. Please accept our thanks for all your prayers and good wishes.
In Deepest Sorrow,
Joseph Bottum
Thank you, Fr. Neuhaus, and pray for us as we will for you.
No cause is ever truly lost because no cause is ever truly won.
Would that Americans would get that.
I will miss him. Thank you God for Fr. Neuhaus’s life.
