I know we've all had it a little up to here with the whole Messiah complex from Obama. From the pictures of him with halos, to the electric crosses burning brightly behind him, to the "Jesus was a community organizer" motif.
But now it seems they're changing things up a little bit. Obama, according to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is now just like...(drumroll please)...The Virgin Mary. This from The New York Times:
Twenty years ago,” he (Wright) told the crowd at Elmwood’s branch here on Clinton Avenue, “a scrawny little kid, pointed nose, big-eared, mama from Kansas, daddy from Kenya — the Lord told him, an ordinary black boy, ‘You can be a state senator and you can bring folk to the bargaining table who not only do not talk to one another, these folk don’t like one another.’I don't know why but this actually ticks me off even more than the Obamessiah thing.
“He did what the Lord said,” Mr. Wright continued, “an ordinary black boy like Mary was an ordinary little girl.
The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town called Nazareth,to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
But Mary said to the angel, "Uh...that's a little above my pay grade. And anyway, I don't want to be punished with a baby."
