Priest arrested during party after 2 girls hospitalized for intoxication

Stonington - Police arrested the Rev. Mark Robinson of Calvary Episcopal Church Monday and charged him with hosting a graduation party at his Barnes Road home Sunday night that resulted in two 17-year-old girls being taken by ambulance to The Westerly Hospital for treatment for intoxication.

The 50-year-old Robinson, who has led the borough church since 1993, was charged with delivery of alcohol to minors, second-degree reckless endangerment and permitting minors to possess alcohol. He was releasedon a $5,000 nonsurety bond and is slated to appear in New London Superior Court on June 10.

Robinson faces up to two years in prison and $2,646 in fines.

It is unclear how the arrest will affect Robinson's position in the Episcopal Church. Karin Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, said Monday that diocesan Bishop Andrew Smith had spoken to Robinson on Monday.

She said the police investigation needs to take place first and would provide the information needed for any church response. In the meantime, she said, the diocese would “continue to offer pastoral support” to Robinson and his family.

After this denomination has tossed Jesus under the bus, why not hand out booze to the kids?

They will probably make him a bishop.

We had a Catholic priest who worked with students here at the university who was removed because of drinking with the kids. Happens everywhere.

Interesting how those who comment here seem to take neither Jesus’ words (Matt 7:1 & Luke 6:37) nor the American concept of innocent until proven guilty at all seriously. HMMM...just a bit inconvenient to have to live in charity I suppose. Besides that I don’t know about those who brought you up or these two girls but my parents would have taken me to the woodshed for going to a party and drinking, probably would have suggested I should be arrested, and then made me apologize publicly for my behavior. But I suppose taking responsibility for one’s own behavior and accepting the consequences goes against the Randian notion of shift all costs at all costs.
