That would be an odd Catholic indeed. In fact I would seriously doubt his true catholicism. Catholics don't go around telling people to repent. It is just not our "style" if you know what I mean. That sounds more like the evangelical type although there are some charismatic type of catholics that might be so inclined but it would be very unusual in my opinion.
You’re right it’s not our usual MO to go around telling people to “repent”, however there are some Catholics both “liberal” and “conservative” (theologically) that sometimes will tell people “if you believe abortion is wrong in all circumstances you are being too judgmental” and “if you don’t go to the TLM whenever possible you aren’t being the best Catholic you can be”, (even if they won’t come right out and say the NO is illicit), respectively.
Just goes to show just being a Catholic doesn’t inherently make someone better than someone else.
I’ve run into one in particular that went so far as to tell me that he had purposely not congratulated and welcomed me into the Church because he KNEW I was not “on board” with “all” received doctrine. That was after I said that a woman was justified in suing her doctor when, after 8 kids, she had a tubal ligation and it failed. In that case I was not being asked to judge her on having the tubal ligation, but only whether she was justified in filing suit.
I do run into hard-edged Catholics, all of them male so far, now and then. Most are amenable to reason. That particular one was not.
true — we rather have our Saints who LIVE trying to imitate Christ — actions speak louder than words
