I am posting this on behalf of many LDS freepers. They will post their own 'signature' to this in the comments below. --- Some of you have noticed lately a lot of LDS (ie: Mormon) threads here on FR. I'm going to tell you why.
For many years there have been several active LDS freepers here. We post to all the forums on relevant issues, and were happy to have a site where conservative values were so openly welcomed.
Those conservative values include faith in God, and freedom of religion. We fully respect the rights of all posters to express their opinions and views on religious matters, even when people choose to use those rights to express criticism of our own faith. We also support the ideas embodied in FR rules against religion bashing. There is no need for hostility and there should be no room for bigotry on FR. Every religion has it's miracles and mysteries. Every faith has things in it that are not or can not be proven, and things that run contrary to what secular science would have us believe. Someone mature and confident in their own faith generally doesn't feel the need to belittle the faith of others.
We have, to the best of our ability, conducted ourselves with civility and dignity. We do not feel that that respect has been returned by some posters (putting it mildly).
When Mormon missionaries were murdered, the moderators were kept busy pulling jubilant posts off the thread. When Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her home, we contended for months with posters who appeared to be motivated by religious bigotry doing all they could to smear the family and accuse the father. Several posters openly admitted their religious motivation in opposing Mitt Romney and confessed that no matter how conservative any Mormon was, they would never vote for one for President of the USA. When the Pope died, I don't think any Mormon poster posted anything unkind, yet the thread about the passing of our President recently needed many comments removed.
Nearly every thread having any connection with Mormons, or Utah winds up being hijacked by anti-Mormon activists who copy and paste the same false accusations over and over even when it has been clearly and factually pointed out to them on multiple occasions that they are bearing false witness against our faith. Everything possible is done by these activists to make FR a hostile place for Mormons, and for at least some of them, bashing Mormonism is all they do here. Their most recent project is trying to blur the fact that the polygamous FLDS is a separate and distinct religion from ours, just as Lutherans are a separate and distinct religion from Catholicism.
In our opinion, such poster do a great disservice to FR and to their fellow freepers by spreading disinformation and promoting hostility towards a people known for walking the walk of conservative values.
Why the moderators here don't see the behavior of these anti-Mormon activists as religion bashing is a mystery to us, but it is the moderators call to make and we respect their right to do so. That doesn't mean we have to be passive however. We have all spent many hours refuting the accusations leveled at our faith, but these wind up buried deep in a flood of comments, effectively shouting us down.
Recently some of us have decided to take a more proactive approach. Rather than try to wrestle the pig into taking a bath, we are just going to hose it down. We will actively define our faith here rather than just respond to accusations.
So expect to see lots of Mormon threads, now and for as long as we see fit to keep posting them (although probably not as many as there are Catholic threads). They will be about our basic doctrines and responses to common accusations. If you want to know what our faith is about, read the articles we post. We will post them as open threads and I encourage you to compare the difference in tone and spirit between what we post and what our critics say.
Good night granny........
I can see why you were confused at my post.
I said I "freqently take" my kids to Catholic Church, but I meant to say I "frequently took" my kids to Catholic Church.
My grown son lives in California and goes to a Baptist Church out there.
My grown daughter, and her three kids, used to attend Calvary Baptist Church, but then went to another Baptist Church in the town nearby.
Now she usually goes to Christian Life Center with me each week. They have a great Sunday School for the kids.
At six, four, and two -- they say their prayers before meals (usually, anyway) and constantly talk about God doing this or God doing that.
It is so cute, and heartwarming that they are getting a good foundation. It is so important to give kids a head start in learning God's Word.
I've heard thousands of sermons over my life, and I can say definitively that you could not tell the difference between a sermon at my old Baptist Church and the Christian Life Center I attend now.
They are both fundmentalist, in my view.
Both honor our servicemen, police, firefighters twice a year in special services.
Both openly support the US efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
No acceptance of "different lifestyles" or nonsense like that.
Strictly the Word of God, and urging all to be Born Again.
Our pastor of 15 years just retired, and is heading to India to help start new churches over there.
Our new Pastor is exceptionally fabulous, and so grounded in the Bible...
Good night tot.
POST 1060 "I now attend a church, Christian Life Center, in Bensalem, Pa., which I think considers itself with the Assemblies of God."
"All I know is that for two years, our preacher (several of them) preached straight out of the Bible: redemption, salvation, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.... which is the only path to eternal life in Heaven."
I am confused.
POST 931 " I love and respect Catholics as Brothers in Christ... and even married a devout Catholic woman and take my kids to Mass frequently."
POST 1060 "I didn't say I or my family were practicing Catholics. My wife was raised a Catholic, but she came to like my church and eventually considered herself a practicing Baptist (I think). She preferred Calvary Baptist over her former Catholic church, which was Queen of the Universe, and St. Michael's. I only said I took my kids to Catholic Church occasionally just to passify my wife's parents, who naturally were still devout Catholics back then."
OK I'm not sure about all of those contradictions and differing stories, but if you are Assemblies of God now then this is what they say about the Mormon church.
"A law unto itself In the final analysis, Mormonism is an original, invented religion, born of the mind of Joseph Smith, who is responsible for the spiritual seduction of millions of people. To the world, Mormonism sells itself as the friendly Christian church down the street, but in reality it is no closer to biblical Christianity than Hinduism or Islam. The goals of Mormonism, however, remain unchanged. It desires to turn Protestants and Catholics, Evangelicals and Pentecostals, into Mormons. It seeks to introduce them to what the Bible calls another gospel, another spirit, and another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4).

Nope, still waiting myself (crickets)
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Malachi 4:5, 6
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. Joel 2:31
I believe this all happens after the rapture...
We will actively define our faith here rather than just respond to accusations.

Back at you babe. We Christians will do the same.
"I have spoken openly to the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said."
John 18: 20-21
From here on, we Christian who oppose the Mormon Cult shall be known as:
The Unhosed Pigs
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
The massive LDS spam campaign will eventually end when they realize that they do themselves more harm than good as their doctrine is exposed.
Thanks,
My brother is just glad that they are marrying before he passes on, so baby will have a legal daddy.
There's a devotional with selections from Tozer that Sopater runs and I believe I saw one from Oswald Chambers but I don't recall who runs that. There's also a Baptist ping list but I don't know if there's any devotional being run with that now.
Since Protestantism contains many different denominations, it would be hard to say that there's a Protestant one per se, as much as a denominational one.
I'd heard enough about Mormonism that I recognized the error it contained, but never realized some of the things that they really believed that they never talk about. It's totally unbelievable when you hear it spelled out like it has been.
I agree with you.
Not surprised the point I was trying to make flew totally over your head.
‘Hundreds’ of ‘versions’ is a big, big, big stretch.
A version does not change the doctrines of the original, but updates the translated words to the current common usages for clear understandings of the passages.
The Christians I know use the concordances to get to the original words and meanings, for themselves, and they learn the ways the original words are used in the other passages, when they want to study the Word and compare Scripture with Scripture to understand context.
Barring the mis-informed KJV only crowd, the Christians I know do not believe any translation is “inspired”, but that only the original manuscripts were.
The Christians I know use more than one translation for their studies, and still use the concordances for themselves, when studying the Word.
Take it from a non-mormon. Very accurate.
You are right, Michael was David’s wife, but Saul gave her to another man when David had to flee from Saul and be gone so long. David took her back. She despised David’s worship of the LORD when He danced before the Ark, and she got cursed to be barren -and she was.
The original point was that David had “stolen” Michal from another guy and the guy cried when David stole her away...
I was just correcting the error...
hosed
1.(slang/transitive verb) To deceive or trick somebody.
Yes, we are the unhosed....
Out of the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.
The Testimony of Jesus Christ is the Spirit of prophecy.
He is our Testimony, who have received His Living Spirit. We know Him by His Spirit that lives in us.
There is nothing that can be added to His Witness, and whoever takes away from His Witness is a false prophet, and is under a curse. There are no new books to be written, since Jesus came to fulfill all that was written about Him.
The Gospel accounts are simply witnesses of His coming and of His fulfilling of what was written about Him, to be done at His coming in flesh.
Even the book of Revelation which tells of the Day of His being revealed to the world, and the judgment of the world at that time, was already written about before, by Enoch the prophet, who saw all things that ever will be, and who saw the visions of the Holy One in the heavens, before He came in flesh pf second creation human being, as brother and therefore Kinsman, to Redeem Adam, to fulfill the biblical law of kinsman/redeemer..
God spoke in times past by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His son, directly -
and which last days are the last days since Jesus came, for He came in flesh in the beginning of the fifth day of earth’s one allotted week of one thousand year days, as the prophets of old revealed.
There is, since He came, ascended, and gave the Revelation of His coming to John, nothing more to say, and no one else to be sent to say anything different, since Jesus is come. He is the “Last Word” from the Father.
There is now nothing but the witness of Him, and the Testimony of Him, being given by the Church to the world.
