>> I know of no Protestant denomination that embraces Gnosticism in the least. <<

Some charismatic/Pentecostalis/non(anti?)=denominationalist groups’ concepts of prophesy get pretty close to the notion of gnostic revelation, but I wouldn’t associate these with any mainline denomination, and that one characteristic merits only a description of approaching “to a small degree.”

If you differ with Mormonism being called a Protestant denomination, fine, but I think Mormonism has as strong of a gnostic heritage as any denomination out there.

Do we zot people because they have different religious beliefs? What is the official religion here anyway?

I didn’t coin it; I got it from Orthodox Christians:

http://www.roacamerica.org/art-text_timeline.shtml

Armenians and Copts are affiliated “Oriental Orthodox” who follow monophysitism/miaphysitism.

LOL! That’s the OTHER web page in the universe that uses that term! Copts are monophysite, while Armenians bitterly reject the label. That’s pretty slim to base the term “Copto-Armenian.” I think that one web site was trying to lump various ancient Christian groups together into a phylogeny, but you can’t murder a phylogeny!

We zot idiots. And I don’t know the poster to be an idiot, but statements like this don’t acquit him well: “Soon, [the Catholic Church] will have to admit the non-Prophet Muhammad, or the poor dears won’t get churches in Saudi Arabia.”

Ironically, the Catholic Church just baptized a courageous Muslim (Allam) who will probably end up martyred (God, I hope not!) for his incredible zeal to expose Islam for what it is. The Pope responded by ignoring the hysterics of Christian liberals and Islamic “moderates,” by defending Allam’s outspokenness. Precisely because he rejected calls to water down his defense of Christianity and freedom of religion, he earned the respect of King Abdullah, who just might permit Catholic Churches in Saudi Arabia.

I cannot and will not call hanfei stupid, but I do suggest that the last thing FR needs is more belligerent ignorants. And in my opinion, hanfei had better do a better job of demonstrating some thoughtfulness, because this thread is a disgrace, and if it is typical of what we can expect of hanfei, I’m all in favor of a zot... or at least some severe guidance.

Ahh, I see what you are getting at- A gnostic act, *not* referencing gnostic literature. You and I were cross-threaded... forgive me.

Your observation is plausible, to say the least. I can understand a charismatic or pentecostal church being over the line (they live close to it as it is). Prophecy is a touchy thing.

If you differ with Mormonism being called a Protestant denomination, fine, but I think Mormonism has as strong of a gnostic heritage as any denomination out there.

Agreed, though their interpretations of the Scripture are generally reasonable- It is the Book of Mormon where we part company. The Book of Mormon could certainly be thought of as gnostic, by the very definition (secret knowledge beyond the confines of standard canon), with no offense meant toward our Mormon FRiends.

Some Armenians, Copts, and Syrians (Oriental Orthodox) don’t like to be called “monophysitic” (an allegation of heresy that has lingered since the Council of Chalcedon), and prefer “miaphysitic.” But that’s what the Armenians, Copts, and Syrians are:

Here’s the Catholic Church on immigration/invasion:

Considering this post, and posts #6, #41, and #44, is anyone who has responded to this thread OPPOSED to a Zot? Can we have a show of hands for a Zot?

Immigration? This is an immigration thread? Thread-crossing is a big no-no on FR.

Incidentally, this is the Catholic magisterium on immigration, notwithstanding Marixst pedophiles like Cdl. Mahoney:

“The importation of foreign labor for the purpose of suppressing wages is a crime, which cries out to skies for vengence.”
— Rerum Novarum, Pope Leo XIII, referenced by Pius XI (Quadrigessimo Anno), John XXIII (Mater et Magistra), and John Paul II (Centessimus Annus).

Yeah, I think we’re in agreement. But just in case my response confused you, I wasn’t the one who made the original post about Protestants and gnosticism.

Kolo,

Apparently you and I profess a different trinity from each other (filioque not withstanding).

Actually, you accused me in this thread of being “all anti-Catholic.” Church policy on illegals is good reason to be, unless you are a liberal. This is a conservative forum, not a Catholic one. I am replying to you, not crossing threads.

... and how many of these “lost gospels” were fakes to begin with? a good many of them. It is just now the atheists are trying to turn a new buck out of an old fraud.

The site founder says as a conservative site, "we are pro-God". Ask him, not me.
