The Vatican has gone to meddling again. They've decided that the original seven deadly sins just aren't enough. We need some new ones. So here you go, but first, a review. For those of you who don't remember the original seven, here you go, courtesy of Pope Gregory back there in the 6th Century.
Pride Broken on the wheel
Envy Put in freezing water
Gluttony Forced to eat rats, toads, and snakes
Lust Smothered in fire and brimstone
Anger Dismembered alive
Greed Put in cauldrons of boiling oil
Sloth Thrown in snake pits
Hold on a minute! What are those phrases after the sins? Why those are the punishments originally established by the Catholic Church for transgressors.
Moving right along to the new magnificent seven! Genetic experimentation
Tampering with the order of nature
Pollution
Social injustice
Causing poverty
Accumulating excessive wealth
Drug abuse
Now you know. Adjust your behavior accordingly
Yeah .. right.
Sure, but there is no penalty for the new ones. Who is going to listen to this. Got to have some kind of discomfort or it’s just entertainment.
Search much?

Even “media skeptics” like Neal Boortz believe the MSM spin on this. As Bugs Bunny liked to say, “what a maroon!”
I still have to ask why anyone who isn’t Catholic would bother to take offense.
You don’t follow it so what’s the problem?
I don’t handle snakes and don’t care which sect does, so why is Benedict’s edict a problem for everyone else?
Whew! I have only committed one of these “new” sins, in addition to the other five “old” sins I have committed, I guess I’m not doing to badly.
Nope. Why?
Well, why don't you give us the OFFICIAL word???
The problem is, I can’t read the Italian. But given past MSM “spin” of Catholic Church-related stuff, I don’t trust anything they report about the Church.
What do you think about it?
Who has taken offense? You dont follow it so whats the problem?
Why do you assume (falsely) that I have a problem? Or do you automatically assume that becasue I am not a Catholic I have no right to post something about the Catholic Church to see whatothers have to say? I dont handle snakes and dont care which sect does, so why is Benedicts edict a problem for everyone else?
How did snake handling get into this? And who said anything about something being a problem for everyone else?
Take the chip off your shoulder and discuss the article's contents -- that's why it was posted.
Those who love to hate the church slurp up the MSM's effluvia.
Matthew 5:44
Mark 13:13
Luke 6:22
John 15:18-19
Nothing -- except that it is interesting to see the reaction to it -- and that is why I posted it.
Interesting.........thanks.
I have not been able to find any confirmation of this. I checked out the Vatican website. The only news about the Cardinal mentioned which involved confessions did not say anything about new sins. It was about how confession is in a crisis and how priest’s can better meet the needs of the penitent. The only actual sin mentioned was divorce and remarriage.
I never, ever rely on the news’ to report on religion. Catholic or Protestant. Also remember that the English edition of L’ Osservato Roma (sp) is only released once a week. The daily edition is in Italian, so there could very well be major blunders in translation.
That was a generic question.
It was into the ether.
And, yes thank you, I have already been discussing this on other threads trying to defend the church against some absolutely silly interpretations of what Catholics believe.
You might want to remove the chip on yours.
Are they going to add more homunculi to Full Metal Alchemist?
What chip is that. Does posting something about the Catholic Church for discussion constitute having a chip on one's shoulder?
Right. There’s nothing new here at all. Tampering with nature and genetic experimentation fall under “pride,” which is claiming/playing the role of God; “excessive wealth” and “causing poverty” usually result from greed; inattention to the environment, i.e., “pollution,” is a result of sloth; “drug abuse” is connected to gluttony. Regarding “social injustice,” well, it depends on what the specific injustice is. But when it all comes down, every sin is a result of the first cardinal sin, PRIDE, which is believing our way of doing things—as opposed to God’s way, or the way of Natural Law—is better.
Attributing motives and other forms of "readings minds" is "making it personal."
