Mormonism increasingly draws Spanish-speakers as converts
Arizona Daily Star ^ | March 8, 2008 | Stephanie Innes

Spanish-speakers are fueling growth in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which recently opened new worship space on Tucson's predominantly Hispanic South Side.

Many local Mormon worshippers, like 47-year-old Juan Arroyo, converted to the faith from Catholicism while living in their native countries. Arroyo, a roofer who has four children, joined the church when he lived in Guadalajara, Mexico. He's been in the United States for seven years.

"I was missing something, and my life changed greatly after meeting the missionaries," he said in Spanish.

Nationally, the number of Spanish-speaking congregations in the Mormon church grew by 64 percent between 2000 and 2006. There are 639 such congregations in the United States.

The church is growing quickly in Mexico.

Church officials say its presence there began in 1875 when Brigham Young, then denomination president, called on six missionaries from Salt Lake City to bring Spanish-language materials about the church to Mexico. In 1885, a group of nearly 400 colonists from Utah arrived at northern Mexico's Casas Grandes River. Mexico's first stake was created in Colonia Juárez in 1895. By 1912, more than 4,000 members had settled in Chihuahua and Sonora.

More than 1 million members now live in Mexico, a predominantly Catholic country with a population of about 108 million.

You can pray and ask God why he plans to have priests officiating in the last days, according to the bible.

Galatians 1:9 - As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. This verse indicates that anyone who preaches a different Gospel might be the sons of perdition you speak of. Hint: That would be the LDS.

I believe it is you who is preaching another Gospel where is the Nicene Creed in the Bible?

BTW Read read Gal 1 again it is talking about current events like 50AD not about 1820 AD.

Not all angels are bad many are from the Lord.

Rev. 14
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel(Book of Mormon) to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

"Blasphemy by definition is treating the name of God in an irreverent manner."

That's exactly what claiming to be a "Melchizedek priest" does. Christ being the only one, trying to supplant His office is quite irreverent.

"You still haven't answered why jesus would call himself after a man."

Umm... what?

You do realize that some of the Theophanies in the Bible refer to Jesus, as himself at one point and to him as an angel in another. Angel in Hebrew merely means messenger. The Hebrew translation is mal'ach, meaning "messenger." Jesus describes himself as a messenger of the Father in Malchi 3:1

Paul describes his theophany differently at different times as well. Seeing as how the Prophet/Apostle Paul did it I don't fault the Prophet/Apostle Joseph Smith for doing it as well. Joseph Smith's theophany of God and Jesus matches Stephen's in Acts 7:55-56 who saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God.

What is realy interesting is the Book of Abraham (mormon scripture) refers to Jesus as the "angel of the Lord's presence" at one point. Which was a way to refer to him in early post apostlic Christianity as well. It's too bad many modern Christian's no longer refer to him by that name even thought their Fathers did. Joseph Smith restored truths about Christ which had been lost. The mormon (restorationist) claim is really not that different than the protestant (reformationsist) claim that the Catholics (originalists) lost the truth. Who you believe and which way you interpret it is up to you. but I believe in the Theophany of Jospeh Smith just as I believe the theophany of Paul. If you choose not to believe as I do that is fine with me.

Who am I too stick my nose in their meetings and tell them they need to follow my way and if they don’t I will speak ill of them...
some here think it is their right to scorn others into submission to their beleif or else!
I know the differents from the provocateurs here and what the Church really said in context

OH, REALLY?

From Joseph Smith to Brigham Young to Heber Kimball to Orson Pratt to Bruce Mcconkie to Gordon Hinckley, your mormon leaders have scorned others' beliefs and uttered provocative statements.

Those who try to claim scorn of others should read the statements of these leaders, SAID IN CONTEXT.

“I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: ‘they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.’”
“He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, ‘Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.’ I then said to my mother, ‘I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.’
Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., Joseph Smith–History, v. 1, pp. 8–26

"With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world."
-    Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 199

"Christians—those poor, miserable priests brother Brigham was speaking about—some of them are the biggest whoremasters there are on the earth, and at the same time preaching righteousness to the children of men.
 Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, v. 5, p. 89

"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the ‘whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent."
-    Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 255

“... all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ.... in large part the worship of apostate Christendom is performed in ignorance, as much so as was the worship of the Athenians who bowed the Unknown Gods.”
-    Apostle Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 269, 374-375

“We accept that as a statement which came to him [Joseph Smith's vision in which he was told all other religions were "abominations"], which is printed, of course, and published in his history as a statement.
Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, interview with Richard Ostling, as quoted in Mormon America, by Richard and Joan Ostling, p. 323

Rev. 14
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel(Book of Mormon) to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
_________________________________________

Resty,

1. The words (book of mormon) are not in that scripture

2. the book of mormon is NOT the “everlasting gospel”

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Revelation 14:6, 7

Nope nothing about the bom and the Angel never mentioned Joseph Smith...

But the Angel did say to worship God..to fear Him and give Glory to Him, not Joseph Smith...

Ooooooooo The Angel said that God made Heaven and Earth..

Hmmmm the Joseph Smith and the mormons missed that one...

They all claim that their heaven and Earth were here when their god was “made”...

Bad Karma...Big bad LIE.....

I have seen many discussions on the theology of Justification and Salvation. Many Protestants, in particular, tend to believe that the soul can be saved through Faith alone, Sola fide, and doing good works plays no part is Salvation. This is reinforced in particular by the books of the New Testament like Romans and Galatians.

I see you did NOT do your own research, but used someone elses...

Otherwise it is an example of #7 on The LIST!

OH, REALLY?

Have you noticed they never embrace their prophets? They always run from their statements, or pretend they never made those statements. If it is really bad, they claim that the scribe must have made an error in transcription. One apologist had the nerve to ask someone if the picture of the page from the Journal of Discourses was from their own copy, as if to imply that the picture of the page does not represent the actual words in the JoD. Well the JoD is online for anyone to peruse. Talk about disingenuousnesses!

They embrace their current prophet, but they basically pretend that all the prophets who went before this one were engaged in personal speculation when they declared their unique doctrines, even when they declared from the pulpit "Thus saith the Lord!"

It is a hard job being a Mormon apologist in light of all the "unusual" statements of their prophets and apostles.

BTW Read read Gal 1 again it is talking about current events like 50AD not about 1820 AD

There is absolutely nothing contexturally within Gal 1:9 that would limit it to the first century.

Rev. 14 6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel(Book of Mormon) to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

Ah, must be that inspired JST, cause that insertion is not in any other bible.
