Mormonism increasingly draws Spanish-speakers as converts
Arizona Daily Star ^ | March 8, 2008 | Stephanie Innes

Spanish-speakers are fueling growth in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which recently opened new worship space on Tucson's predominantly Hispanic South Side.

Many local Mormon worshippers, like 47-year-old Juan Arroyo, converted to the faith from Catholicism while living in their native countries. Arroyo, a roofer who has four children, joined the church when he lived in Guadalajara, Mexico. He's been in the United States for seven years.

"I was missing something, and my life changed greatly after meeting the missionaries," he said in Spanish.

Nationally, the number of Spanish-speaking congregations in the Mormon church grew by 64 percent between 2000 and 2006. There are 639 such congregations in the United States.

The church is growing quickly in Mexico.

Church officials say its presence there began in 1875 when Brigham Young, then denomination president, called on six missionaries from Salt Lake City to bring Spanish-language materials about the church to Mexico. In 1885, a group of nearly 400 colonists from Utah arrived at northern Mexico's Casas Grandes River. Mexico's first stake was created in Colonia Juárez in 1895. By 1912, more than 4,000 members had settled in Chihuahua and Sonora.

More than 1 million members now live in Mexico, a predominantly Catholic country with a population of about 108 million.

Arguing this stuff gives legitimacy to the LDS Organization, Inc.

Since it was FOUNDED from information given to an ignorant, 14 yo farm boy (who evidently had no knowledge of the bible) by what can ONLY be described Biblically* as two of Satan's servants, there is no reason to enter into yet another 'angels on a pin' type of discussion.

This is similar to the illegal alien question now facing us.

"Well, since they are now here, how can we best ACCOMODATE them?"

*2 Corinthians 11:14-15
14. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
15. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

As a bit of trivia.... The Kirtland Library can’t keep a copy of the Tanner book on it’s shelves. It magically disappears over and over and over again.

Another example of those who believe they are above the law. I have lived in various towns and cities with a large mormon population...anything critical of the mormon religion disappears from the local library shelves. "Free speech for me but not for thee" from the proselytizing LDS.

You speak of YOUR ONE GROUP. Now, talk about all the other groups that study the Bible like your group does and finds conflicting answers.
______________________________________________

Fred, the Flyingt Inmans do do belong to ONE GROUP...

A quick survey of us would show that we have Roman Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, et al among us...

We are all from different “groups” but all believe the same cohesive gospel...

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...

And that He was born of a virgin who never had sex with a man, or a god, mortal or immortal, in order to conceive...

and died on the cross to save us...

There are no conflicting answers in the Bible..

Only the Word of God...

++++++++++++++++=

IF you are one group, then your group does not agree with itself.

BIG, BIG CONFLICTING DIFFERENCES, such as how you are saved, and how you stay saved.

You first, let's start with the RLDS.........
++++++++++++=

Standard answer, “Do not study the LDS teachings, make the crowd think of something else.”

It is a good question, save it and bring it back, after this one is solved.

++++++++++++=

Ah, refuse to answer the question.....good rebuttal....(sarc)

P.S. - I ALREADY ANSWERED YOURS! With scripture after scripture no less............The only reason its not solved in your mind is because you REFUSE to believe it!

So, back to the RLDS............

+++++++++++++++

In the Bible, you are taught to be aware of false prophets, instead of telling you there will be no Prophets.

Just makes your job harder to figure which one has the true Prophet at its head.

Yes, that’s why it’s easy to identify Joseph smith as a false prophet...

and found the teaching from the antis, which you also follow, are good at giving you man made feelings,

Nice to know good solid photographed AND written documentation is now man made feelings..................

++++++++++++++++

+++++++++++++++++++= When you are given, and accept a partial truth, you accept a lie.

this was used a while back. The name is removed to protect the guilty;

-_-_-_-_-

When anyone uses the JoD, or any other source, as a resource to prove something against our church, their understanding of the document they use is open for question. to repeat how bad xxxxxx did;

John Taylor (Mormonism’s 3rd President)
“We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense ...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century” (Journal of Discourses 6:167).

Maybe it’s just me, but that tends to sound a bit arrogant.....un-Christian.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

After going to the source materal and reading what went before, what went after, and what went in the middle, I find that just taking these few words out of the whole, leads one to think it is saying something it is not saying. Did you know that ‘nonsense’ is the end of a sentence? Did you know ‘the devil’ is in the middle of the third sentence after ‘nonsense’.
Did you also know that President Taylor was talking about how THE MEMBERS OF THIS CHURCH, along with the rest of the world, were not being good Christians {But how can we teach others a lesson which we have not learned ourselves?
(Journal of Discourses, 26 vols. [London: Latter-day Saints’ Book Depot, 1854-1886], 6: 167.)}
Did you read the source materal, or did you just copy and past someone else’s misleading half truth?

-_-_-_-

So, you can follow the half-true-lies, or you can sutdy it out for yourself.

You do not need to follow a Judis-goat.

My God is the God of the Bible, Jesus Christ...

Given all the different definitions of who or what God is that man has created from reading the Bible, you only have one of many.

I love the part where Joseph Smith believed the moon was inhabited...............Gotta love those fuzzy man made feelings eh?

++++++++++++++++

You may choose to stop there, or you can dig and find the rest of the truth.

If I just tell you, you will not believe me, so go and do it your self. If you want to.

No, actually the Biblical standard is very clear and straightforward. A true prophet will always speak the truth. How well have lds' living prophets and seers done in this category f? Do you want a list of Smiths, Youngs, etc false prophecies? How about the false translations of materials - or the failure of the living prophet and seer at the time to recognize such? Then too, Christ is our head, not a prophet - thats biblical too.

“... Roman Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, et al among us...”

Christian groups, one and all.

Mormons? Nope.

+++++++++++++

I find the contradicting doctrines too much to say they can be following the same Christ.

I then said to my mother, “I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

+++++++++++++++++=

You have acted like many posters here, when asked why this statement was important to Joesph, you never took the time to find out and tell us.

Yet you keep posting it as if it is one of the big nasties.

So many do not want to learn the rest of the truth.

For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;

+++++++++++++++++

And yet, you never mention the place in the Book of Mormon that says that from time to time He does say it is right.

You may not believe the Book of Mormon is true, but you are using it as a source. Get it right.

You put that out as if it is what is really going on, but it is a miss leading statement.

You are being told to stop following a Judis-goat and learn for yourself.
