“I have bathrooms to clean and diapers to change and a new low-water-usage washer coming on Monday.”

I know what you mean.
And I’m finding that the reality of my day-to-day life has placed me at odds with Church teaching.
Not that I wanted it that way - I’m just between a rock and a hard place.
I guess I won’t be able to receive communion until I hit menopause.

"Of course, you know Just War theory has its origin in St. Augustine."

Aquinas.

I’m really sorry about your situation, although I don’t share the exact difficulties you seem to face. I have eight children, and we’re surviving. Life whomps us all upside the head, and we have different abilities to take it, I suppose. (I have a hard head, fwiw.)

“and we have different abilities to take it, I suppose.”

And I think my abilities are reaching their limit.

I’ll make you my prayer intention for tonight! I don’t know where your “edge” is, but I have been to mine, and I have nothing in my heart but love and support for you.

"Orthodoxy ALWAYS holds that war is "αμαρτια"!"

John 18:36
Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."

So God and His angels are sinners?

thank you for the kindness.

I see alot of black/white on catholic threads.
People assuming that those who aren’t towing the line on this teaching must not respect life - or are materialistic - or are utilitarian - or they don’t love children.

I’m just trying to show that it is possible to wind up in this spot without being any of those things.

I’d suggest reading the Word of God on the matter.

It’s very consistent and understandable.

You're human. Life is hard when we're human :-). We all are, but our weak point are different. We should support one another where we need it.

If I can help, let me know. I'm in North Carolina.

OT discussion re: the low water usage washer -- I have one, and love it. It's a front loader. You probably already know this, but just in case (My son and my mother also have these, and all of us kind of blew off the instructions) it's necessary to run vinegar through the rinse cycle once a week or so.

And the detergent is sort of hard to find here except for Tide, and my daughter is allergic to that.

Aquinas did discuss it, but Augustine developed it in “The City of God.”

I’m upstate NY.

well...at least I won’t be violating the teaching for the next few months anyway.

When June comes, we’re back at square one.

I ordered a front loader ... “LG” model? I’m not sure of the letters. And a new dryer.

I really wanted the top-end Samsung washer, but I could get the washer and dryer from the other company for the same price as the Samsung washer. 1/4 of the water usage of my current Frigidaire top-loader (1995).

Ecological breastfeeding? I’m about to reach two years on my current baby. We’re in our 40’s though, and I hear *some* people have diminished fertility by then.

I use Melaleuca detergent, and run Sol-U-Mel through the wash when it starts to smell funny.

Haven’t been able to breastfeed.
I’ll be turning 40 soon....still as fertile as ever!

from hamartano; a sin

How funny, from the descendant of O Turkophagos.

I was reading "amartia" as "not war." Muddling my roots, I guess.

As far as I know, I’m as fertile as ever, too. If there’s any way I can help with breastfeeding advice at this distance ... I know it’s difficult. I bottle-fed my first three, but have nursed the last five through a year or more.

"Aquinas did discuss it, but Augustine developed it in “The City of God.” "

Aquinas discussed it in chapter 12 of the City of God in an arbitrary way. Aquinas developed the coherent theory, which is normally referenced by the Church.
