Sitting in sight of her father and grandfather, both Lutheran ministers, Jen Rude on Saturday became the first ordained lesbian pastor since the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America urged bishops to not penalize congregations who violate the celibacy requirement for gay clergy.
Several of the more than 100 congregants present wept as the 27-year-old stood before them, a beaming smile drawn across her face.
Under church policy, homosexual ministers are required to make a vow of celibacy before they can be ordained. But heterosexual ministers are not, and Rude, who is not in a relationship, refused to make that vow because she considers the policy discriminatory.
"We all realized that sexual orientation has nothing to do with how well a person can minister a congregation," said Kathy Young, a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Lakeview, where the ordination was held.
Young was absolute about the decision to violate church policy by ordaining Rude: "This is who we are and this is what we do."

Sometimes I think that we in the US are actually leading the way; or more precisely, the "Blue state" areas of the US are leading the way.

In a few years, the ELCA will probably be only a shadow of its present self, made up of apostate congregations, worshiping at the altar of immorality.
From the ashes, a new and stronger Lutheran Synod will emerge, based on the Gospel and unafraid to take a stand.
a. She's a lesbian, not a woman. Men make love to wimmin....ergo?
b. Whatsamatter? You don't believe in living, breathing scripture?

Emanating Penumbras and all that. ;-)
Judaism is looking better and better. Frankly I think the Christian religion is dying, the only insitution related to it I can see still existing in a hundred years is the catholic church. Garbage like this is one of many reasons I left my church.
Romans 1:
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
There is also the Orthodox Church.
Isn’t that called the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod?
We’re to flee false teaching. If you’re remaining in an ELCA congregation to fight the ELCA politicapostates, reconsider it. I believe Luther himself described what we’re seeing today as “the whore church of Satan”. Is everyone here aware that ELCA employee health insurance provides abortion on demand up to 22 weeks?
Personally, this old ALC Lutheran is perfectly happy home in the LCMS.
I am in the process of exiting the ELCA. I now show up in my ELCA congregation about once a month, which included yesterday, the Sunday of the Annual Meeting. Although I am leaving the ELCA, I do care about my fellow Lutherans, that they hear the truth and that as many as possible find our way HOME by the grace of God.
If we had young children or youth in our congregation, we would get out FAST!! Not only have our ELCA congregation’s youth been exposed to the lies and seductions of the Muhammedans, but their annual pancake breakfast was coordinated by a “partnered” lesbian couple. Gospodi pomiluj!!!!
I, too, grew up in the ALC. It’s gone.
I am in complete agreement. This is a cause for grieving. I, too have family in friends in the ELCA. They can leave but what really grieves me is that my very godly grandparents were commited members of the old ALC church. I am so glad they are dead and do not have to witness what is happening. I could cry over this and I have.
I crossed the Rhine 30 year or so ago.
Indeed.
And I pray that all those who are faithful to Christ will flee from the ELCA
Doesn’t refusal to take an oath not to engage in sinful activity reflect on how well a person can minister to a Christian congregation?
Details, details.....”sarcasm on high”
Apparently it depends on what you call “sinful”...nowadays that’s a pretty wide interepretation...itchy ears and all.
Mainline Protestantism, except maybe for the Baptists, is becoming morally bankrupt.
There are others...see WELS...

The Council of Synod Lutheran Youth Organization Presidents recommends support of LGBT rostered leaders
On Saturday, November 10, the Council of Synod Lutheran Youth Organization Presidents (CSLYOPs) passed a recommendation in support of LGBT clergy and requested that the subject be included in the agenda of the 2009 Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) Convention. The vote was 38 to 9 with 3 abstentions at the Council's annual meeting, held at Camp Wapogasset in Amery, Wisconsin. The LYO meets in convention every three years; the next convention will be at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg Mississippi, July 2630 2009.
The recommendation was proposed to the floor of the meeting by Rachel Nelson, Upstate NY Synod LYO President and a member of the LC/NA Youth, Young Adult and Family Ministry Committee.
Because the CSLYOPs is an advisory board to the Board of the Lutheran Youth Organization (BLYO), this action is worded as a recommendation and will be forwarded to the BLYO.
The recommendation passed reads:
WHEREAS chapter IV section 4.01.02 of the LYO Constitution states:
"Individuals shall not be denied rights of membership in the Lutheran Youth Organization nor shall the Lutheran Youth Organization place restrictions on or deny rights to any person because of race, color, ability, gender, sexual orientation or national or social origin," and
WHEREAS the LYO has a statement of welcome and invitation to people of all sexual orientations and genders, and
WHEREAS the ELCA is discussing amending the document "Visions and Expectations" so that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) clergy and lay-rostered leaders who are in committed, same sex relationships are not excluded from continuing their call, therefore be it
RECOMMENDED that it be known that the CSLYOPs 2007 supports LGBT clergy and lay-rostered leaders who are in committed, same sex relationships in maintaining and continuing their call, and be it further
RECOMMENDED that the BLYO include this topic of conversation on the agenda for the 2009 LYO Convention.
Only 9 votes against...we have lost the youth...and the future.
And of the adequacy of the catechesis of these youth, as +Martin would ask, "What does this mean?"
Inside the RC faith, practitioners of this "pick and choose" theology are referred to as, "cafeteria Catholics."
