Yes it is. It may not be YOUR type of Christianity but he’s always positive, loving, caring and he always gives a salvation message at the end of his programs. Many of his programs have really blessed me. I think God likes him, too.

God WANTS to prosper us, AS OUR SOULS PROSPER. He doesn’t speak much about financial prosperity at all. He knows we will prosper when we spend time with God, help other people, do what God wants us to do. It’s not all money, you know. He speaks about health, not much about wealth.

Yeah, but Joel lives on, and hasn’t been caught yet! Jim Bakker eat your heart out!

AMEN, Jim. I agree. I like to hear a variety of speakers. They all have their own particular gifts. His is the gift of encouragement.

I have prayed for healing for 25 years and it hasn’t come, but I have learned more about God’s sufficient grace than I ever would have if I had been healed. He’s taught me so much through my heart surgeries, dialysis, diabetes, etc. that I never would have learned otherwise. GOD’S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR ME whether I am healed or not. I can be a witness just the way I am because I have joy in spite of all the bother of being sick. Osteen teaches that as well.

Good point. My son and his wife came back to church because they liked his teachings. I will always be grateful for that. NO ONE can judge Osteen’s influence. Only God knows what he has accomplished for the Kingdom.

He later expounded on what he said and apologized for it. Get the whole story.

He did apologize for not being more clear on the Larry King show. Pastor Osteen is the least judgemental person I’ve heard in a long time. We DON’T know what’s in one’s heart. Only God does.

Well, I just got pinged to it and my feelings about Pastor Osteen haven’t changed from whenever this first came out. I think folks need to quit judging him unfairly. I doubt they even listen to his messages.

So, I’ll ask the same question to you then. Was his TV testimony on Larry King OK, or was it heresy?

I’ve read the transcripts and I know what he said. I just want a yes or no answer from you. Was Joel’s testimony on Larry King OK, or was it heresy.

I've already given you my answer and the reasoning behind it. What's the basis of your stand?

I have yet to find Biblical teaching in Osteen's sermons.

Another non-informative answer.

NO, it wasn’t OK. I heard it myself and felt very uneasy about it for a long time, but he did apologize for it and said he hadn’t really made himself clear. I read the apology on FR, I believe.

I find your non-informative response to my non-informative answer uninformative.

Well, saying "all the critiques of joel's sermons have come up empty" is just as (non)informative.

Grizzly wrote: I have yet to find Biblical teaching in Osteen's sermons.

Well, except when he says "jesus died on the cross" or something.

Trouble is, that hardly sets Jesus apart from a lot of other people in those days. But I guess I can't say it's not Biblical. It's just not complete. And that is as bad as being heretical. Not enough truth is just as useless as a lie.

I would rather hear about my precious Jesus than about how I need to think more positively. I want to hear about what Jesus has done, who he is, how wonderful he is, how he has lived the perfect life for me, already. That is the only thing that comforts or inspires anyone. The Gospel is what inspires faith, and faith is the only thing that gives rise to any fruit. You can counterfeit fruit, (and you can counterfeit the Gospel which is what Joel and MANY other evangelicals, such as Rick Warren, do these days) but without the true Gospel it is just that -- counterfeit.

Chris Rosebrough has an excellent Fighting For the Faith episode (only a half hour -- you can spare a half hour while you are surfing the web can't you?) called "Purpose-Driven Preaching and My Need for Good News Instead of Good Advice"

He's also got:

"You Got Great Potential"? - That Ain't the Christian Gospel! about a sermon by David Foster on your great potential.

(same idea as Osteen)

Purpose-Driven Preaching and My Need for Good News Instead of Good Advice

Todd Wilken (a very soft spoken and gentle man it seems) of Issues Etc did a great one at a time when I very much needed it.
