Christ's perfect offering of himself present in heaven (Heb. 9:11-12) is brought to earth in an unbloody, sacramental manner in the Mass.
The Mass has always been held to be a relative sacrifice--relative to the sacrifice of the Cross, not independent of it. The Council of Trent says the Mass is the means "whereby that bloody sacrifice once to be accomplished on the Cross might be represented, the memory thereof remain even to the end of the world, and its salutary effects applied to the remission of those sins which we daily commit"
I think the easy answer for non-Catholics is that Catholics take the Bible as a whole PLUS we have Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium.
When the canon of the Bible was set by the Catholic Church as inspired it was through the eyes of what they had already been handed down through Sacred Tradition.
The OT is not independent of the NT. Typology and prophesy is throughout the Bible and supports the Catholic belief. History supports the Catholic belief also. Part of a non-Catholics problem is that they don’t understand Catholic belief and so can’t see the Catholic belief in Scripture.
So you approach this from your own already established belief and Scott approaches it from the Catholic belief.
Scott Hahn is interpreting the scripture through the eyes of the Catholic Church. He has a PhD. in theology and you are using your own interpretation and I have no idea what credentials you have.
I will say one thing though, God is in eternity, He IS. He is not “was, is and/or going to be”, He IS. We live in time, He doesn’t.
“I will say one thing though, God is in eternity, He IS. He is not was, is and/or going to be, He IS. We live in time, He doesnt.”
Bingo! Bears repeating!
Ditto that.
To answer your question, Jesus does not need to.
His one single sacrifice was, in and of itself enough to satisfy God’s wrath once [1] and for all.
This silliness is designed to burden you down with vain traditions, [laughable] mysticism and plain old nonsense that goes well past anything Jesus did.
HELLO!
So what, you found something in the bible that refutes the author.
You dont have a friggin degree in theology, so who are you?!
;o)
Ugh...these bible thumpers and their stupid simplisme’.
I’m moving to France!

You were not redeemed by corruptible [imperfect] things like silver or gold, from your vain [empty] conversation received by tradition from your fathers, you were instead redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus...[1st Peter]
We have been [Past tense] made holy through the offering made once for all of the body of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, every [human] priest stands ministering daily, offering the same sacrifices over and over again, which are never able to strip the sins [that envelop us] and take them away...but this man [Jesus], after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever...by one offering He has perfected for ever them that are sanctified [Hebrews].
How can your traditions say one thing, but the Word says something else?
A house divided against itself cannot stand [Matthew].
Let's see. Jesus himself said "This is my Body." "This is my Blood". Paraphrase here: Those who don't eat my Body and Blood have no life in them. Second paraphrae: Those whe DO eat my Body and Blood shall have everlasting life.
Seems pretty incontrovertible to me.
Could it be any more clear??? A religion which has priests that offer sacrifices is rebuked by God...
Here is the real Christianity...
[12] But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
In one religion, men (still) are trying to offer sacrifices to God...In Christianity, God offered (One) sacrifice for man...
They are opposing religions...
One is Christianity, the other is Anti-Christianity...
One is Christ...The other is, Anti-Christ...
Spin your wheels. I got a football game to attend. Have a nice evening [being completely lost].
~chuckle~
A long read but an excellent teaching on old Mel, if I can call him that.
He said to the Apostles: “Do this in remembrance of me.” Current day bishops and priests are the successors of the apostles.
