I have not read Eldredge's book, so can not address its accuracy.
I am very familiar with John Paul II's Theology of the Body and highly recommend it for any group, men or women or a mixed group of younger adults.

I read John Eldredge's book several years ago. It was referred to in the chick version by Angela Thomas
Do You Think I'm Beautiful? They were both very good books. I gave Wild at Heart to a man I used to know. Not sure he ever opened it because there were no pictures....

I was so blessed to have a husband who both kept his manhood, but also dared to dip into the wild side once in awhile. As in all marriages things got difficult at times, especially with five children, but we always seemed to be able to talk through them — somethimes later.
PS.............neither of us were angels. LOL!

This is a fabulous book about true manhood and chivalry, in general.
Males need a coming-of-age moment when an acknowledged man verbally bestows manhood—this book covers it in detail. Important concept in a day when too many dads are in their boys’ lives at all.
A great companion read is Knight in Shining Armor, I don’t recall the female author’s name.

I have read Wild at Heart and his other books. They are extremely powerful, especially Waking the Dead. They are not Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

Others are troubled by Eldredge's contention that boys become men only in the company of other men. While the initiation into manhood (or womanhood, for that matter) is best facilitated by members of the same sex, God created men and women to complement and complete each other. Because of this, we most fully reflect God's image through giving and receiving self-donating love, particularly in the sacrament of matrimony.
This seems an almost pro forma mischaracterization of Eldredge and a trite recititation of a standard line. Eldredge doesn't disagree with the sacrament of matrimony.

However, Catholic and Protestant writers alike have found serious flaws in Eldredge's theology concerning the wildness and even the sovereignty of the Author of Life, and especially Eldredge's claim that the Gospel is a "dangerous story."
Hmmm, let's see, Jesus said he came not to bring peace but a sword. He said the gospel would divide families. He said that his followers would be persecuted and slain. Paul says that Christians living a Christian life would be attacked by Satan. It doesn't sound like like "sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows everywhere".

I agree; I get very tired of all the man-bashing and father-bashing.
May God continue to bless all men and all fathers and call them to holy roles in life.
