WE did the same--left the leftist ELCA for LCMS for these very reasons. The church of Rome has plenty of advocates for the acceptance of homosexuality and the promotion of abortion. Catholics have a difficult time divorcing themselves from the Democrat party. They're Democrats first, Catholics/Christians second.
Perhaps, but they still don't change church doctrine to make the church bless these things; protestants do.
You ought to qualify that as "some Catholics" or even "many Catholics".
I doubt very much that Alan Keyes, Antonin Scalia, Henry Hyde, or Sam Brownback, just to name a few, consider themselves "Democrats first, Catholics second". In fact, none of them consider themselves Democrats at all.
There are large numbers of Catholic democrats because they came from democrat families, since a lot of Catholics were from working class Irish and Italian families.
However, right now in my parish most of the people are Republican, judging from the numbers of Bush/Cheney stickers on cars during the last election.>p>I also find this article pretty offensive, in that the premise is that we "neo-Catholics" (an insulting term like Neocons) don't have our heads screwed on straight.
I would like to know why people feel the need to post stuff like this. My conversion was my business and I haven't been all over this forum pointing out the failings of Protestant churches and how there is something wrong with people for remaining in their Protestant churches.
If nothing else, articles like this are simply bad manners.
Not this Catholic. Sorry, but you're painting with too broad a brush.
Not among the Popes and the bishops in communion with him. The authoritative magisterium established by Christ on Peter and the apostles and their successors have not departed from the deposit of faith on these or any other matters of faith and morals.
Catholics have a difficult time divorcing themselves from the Democrat party. They're Democrats first, Catholics/Christians second.
Talk about a broad generalization... Unfortunately this is true of many "cultural" Catholics, particularly here in the Northeast, but certainly is not true of this proud Republican Catholic convert.
