Catholics have a difficult time divorcing themselves from the Democrat party. They're Democrats first, Catholics/Christians second.

You ought to qualify that as "some Catholics" or even "many Catholics".

I doubt very much that Alan Keyes, Antonin Scalia, Henry Hyde, or Sam Brownback, just to name a few, consider themselves "Democrats first, Catholics second". In fact, none of them consider themselves Democrats at all.

Brownback is becoming questionable. He's "grown" in office.

Brownback's a Catholic? I've always heard him referred to as "evangelical." Oh well. What's in a label.

We could also add Jeb Bush, Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Rick Santorum.

True, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry call themselves Catholics, too, but then Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Harry Reid, and Jimmuh Carter all call themselves born-again Christians.

You're absolutely correct. Thanks for correcting me.
