SAN GENNARO: NEW MIRACLE
(AGI) - Naples, Sept. 19 - The miracle of San Gennaro's blood that liquefies happened again in the cathedral of Naples during the feast of the Patron Saint, which is the anniversary of the martyrdom which took place in 305 A.C. at the Pozzuoli solfatara. It was announced by the archbishop, cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, who is going to celebrate for the first time on this occasion, after the reading of the Gospel. At 9.20 the archbishop said: 'I would like to announce that a few minutes ago the blood started to melt.' The announcement was welcomed by an intense applause by the crowd in the cathedral.

Thanks AAM. Was there an accompanying story with the first picture?

The skeptic in me always wonders just how the blood "knows" when to melt and how it really does. That kind of stuff is fascinating even on a purely factual basis, but then I am a heretic.
I do agree, it's got to be a good sign.

The skeptic in me always wonders just how the blood "knows" when to melt and how it really does. It's an act of God. There have been occasions where the blood didn't liquify, and disasters strike shortly afterwards. The lack of liquification on the feast day is an omen.
That's the second time you've said that you're a "heretic." Don't be self-conscious. You're closer to Catholics than you think. ;-)

It's from a skeptic article in the Guardian. Figured 'nuf said, but they had the best photo of the reliquary.

Nice pic of a typical European church scene.
Not a man to be found anywhere.

I'm not happy about that fact that as a cradle Catholic, I had never heard of the miracle of the blood of St. Januarius or the
Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano until I stumbled upon them as an adult.

I know exactly what you mean, though I learned about the miracle of St. Januarius as a kid. It was featured in a National Geographic documentary on Herculanaeum and the modern-day volcanic and seismic risks to the Naples region.

Bingo!
That's where I heard about it too . . . although I read the associated article in the NG magazine, didn't see the TV show.
And that's when I was still an Episcopagan. Thought it was pretty neat at the time (you see how all these events and observations accumulate, and before you know it, you're a Catholic!)

Cool! Was that the same issue with the lady forensic anthropologist and the skeletons from Herculaneum?

Fascinating stuff. I read the eyewitness account by Pliny the Younger years ago, back when I was reading Classics in college.
The reconstructions of the individuals were great.
