Pray for the Pope

Prayers from the Raccolta, 1957 edition, reprinted by Loreto Publications, 2004

385

Most holy Virgin and Mother, whose soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the Passion of thy divine Son, and who in His glorious Resurrection was filled with never-ending joy at His triumph; obtain for us who call upon thee, so to be partakers in the adversities of Holy Church and the sorrows of the Sovereign Pontiff, as to be found worthy to rejoice with them in the consolations for which we pray, in the charity and peace of the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

511

[A Prayer to Pope St. Gregory VII, Confessor]

O invincible defender of Holy Church's freedom, Saint Gregory of great renown, by that firmness thou didst show in maintaining the Church's rights against all her enemies, stretch forth from heaven thy mighty arm, we beseech thee, to comfort her and defend her in the fearful battle she must ever wage with the powers of darkness. Do thou, in an especial manner, give strength in this dread conflict to the venerable Pontiff who has fallen heir not only to thy throne, but likewise to the fearlessness of thy mighty heart; obtain for him the joy of beholding his holy endeavours crowned by the triumph of the Church and the return of the lost sheep into the right path. Grant, finally, that all may understand how vain it is to strive against that faith which has always conquered and is destined always to conquer; "this is the victory which overcometh the world, our faith." This is the prayer that we raise to thee with one accord; and we are confident, that, after thou hast heard our prayers on earth, thou wilt one day call us to stand with thee in heaven, before the eternal High Priest, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen.

652

V. Let us pray for our Pontiff, [Benedict XVI].
R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him to be blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. (Roman Breviary)
Our Father, Hail Mary

654

O God, the Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, mercifully look upon Thy servant [Benedict XVI], whom Thou hast chosen as the chief Shepherd to preside over Thy Church; grant him, we beseech Thee, so to edify, both by word and example, those over whom he hath charge, that he may attain unto everlasting life, together with the flock committed unto him. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer [to St. Joseph] For the Church and the Holy Father

Most powerful Patriarch, St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, which has always invoked thee in anxiety and trouble, from the exalted seat of thy glory, cast a loving glance upon the whole Catholic world. Let thy fatherly heart be touched at the sight of the Mystical Spouse and the Vicar of Christ overwhelmed by sorrow and persecuted by powerful enemies. Oh, by the bitter anguish thou didst experience upon earth, dry the tears of the venerable Pontiff [Benedict XVI, whose baptismal name is thine - my addition], defend him, comfort him, intercede for him with the Giver of peace and charity, that, all adversity being removed, and all error dissipated, the entire Church may serve God in perfect liberty. Amen.

We should pray to Almighty God for Pope Benedict XVI, whose safety has been at jeopardy since day one, and now is under pressure to apologize for speaking the truth. May God grant him the grace to persevere, and be the leader God has called him, and continues to call him to be.

Prayer to the Holy Spirt

Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created; And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us Pray:
God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, grant us by the same Spirit to be truly wise and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.

I ask all who have theological disputes with either these prayers or Catholic teaching to please stay off this thread. Please do not be a disruptive presence on here. Thank you, and God bless.

I said a prayer for our Lord and our Lady's protection of him just before I saw this thread.

Will do my best to pray for it constantly, if not daily.

God bless Josef Ratzinger, Pope Benedict!

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Amen. (exactly what I was going to post.)

I thought this was interesting too. We Catholics are asked to pray for the Pope's intentions every month. Pope Benedict's Prayer Intention for September:

That those who use the means of social communication may always do so conscientiously and responsibly.

God protect this good man, the Shepherd of the Church, and for the truth he dares to admit. God be with his brother Georg too, keep him safe from the madness of evil men. Now more than ever we seek Your protection in a world going slowly mad, for Your People, Your Church, Your Shepherd Pope Benedict.
Saint Michael, defender of the human race, be with us.
If John Paul the Great and Vigilant is listening, come, stand by your friend. He's going to need you now.

Pope Benedict's prayer intentions for 2006:

September -- That those who use the means of social communication may always do so conscientiously and responsibly.

October -- That all those who are baptized may mature in their faith and manifest it through clear, coherent and courageous choices in life.

November -- That, everywhere in the world, an end be put to all forms of terrorism.

Thanks for posting this! I pray for the Pope every day, but I am redoubling my efforts now. We should all pray as hard as we can, without ceasing, because the crisis has grown very acute and I do fear that he is seriously threatened.
