THE WATER OF CANA IS TURNED INTO BLOOD By His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP Primate, Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America July 31, 2006

Cana (modern spelling is Qana) is a little village in South Lebanon which was blessed by the presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, his Holy Mother and his disciples. Cana is the Village where Christ performed his first miracle by changing the water into wine at the marriage feast. (John 2: 1-11). Thus, Cana is deeply rooted in our Christian history.

Unfortunately, in modern times and due to the conflict between Israel and Arab nations, including Lebanon, Cana has been the victim of Israeli aggression twice: once in April 1996, when an Israeli rocket killed 105 Lebanese men, women and children. And second, on Sunday morning, July 30, 2006, when an Israeli rocket killed 60 people, including 37 children. This indiscriminate killing is against the Geneva Convention, the United Nations Charter and all laws of civilized nations.

This savage war is between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanon has no air force, no navy and no large military force. As a matter of fact, the Lebanese army is not involved in this war at all. This war, then, is between Israel and Hezbollah. Why is Israel bombing Lebanese cities, villages, bridges, roads and killing innocent men, women and children in the south and north, east and west of Lebanon? According to UN statistics, more than 800 civilians have been killed, many of them children, and more then 800,000 Lebanese have been made refugees in their own country. Israel knows very well where Hezbollah is. Why doesnt Israel fight Hezbollah on its own turf? Why is Israel bombing civilian cars, motorcycles and pickup trucks carrying food for hungry people and medical supplies for the wounded? Lebanon is a poor country; the devastated infrastructure will cost billions of dollars to rebuild.

We deplore the killing and destruction on both sides. We know that Hezbollah has some weapons which are causing some unfortunate killing and destruction in Israel. But Hezbollah does not have American weapons such as F-16s, F-15s, Apaches and smart bombs, etc

When I saw the Lebanese Red Cross retrieving the tender dead bodies of little children from underneath the rubble and I looked at their innocent faces and iconic eyes, I wept. I was indeed ashamed to see the extent of the cruelty and barbarism of our world. This morning, when the Lebanese Broadcasting Company showed pictures of the city of Bint-Jbeil which was completely leveled by the Israeli air force, I was reminded of the destruction of Stalingrad and Berlin during the Second World War. We and the whole world, with the exception of the United States, Great Britain, and Israel, are calling for an immediate cease fire. If we allow the law of the jungle to prevail, and if we allow our moral principles to be trodden on by barbarian feet, what will be left of our civilization?

The behavior of Mr. Ehud Olmert in this war reminds me of the behavior of his ancestor of old, Joshua, recorded in the Book of Joshua 6:21. And they (Joshuas army) destroyed all that was in the city (Jericho) both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep and ass with the edge of the sword. Thanks to Mr. Olmert, nothing is left in Bint-Jbeil except some starving dogs feeding on corpses.

You could always tell her "You're a horse's ass". That's the best I can come up with on such short notice.

On second thought, tell her this:

"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. May God have mercy on your soul."

I would tell her to read some books on terrorism so that she understands that every media image she sees from the battlefield is very, very suspect. I would also suggest she keep her eye on the ball, i.e. terrorists intentionally seek the destruction of the innocent.

That's all anyone needs to know.

antioccan?

not the same.

small fringe group.

Tell him the serious Greek Orthodox people remember 1821. They remember the "secret schools" when the Islamic overseers would not let the slaves learn greek.

Remind your small minded friend that the monestaries of Meteora were set up to preserve the orthodox faith from exactly thse types of looney terrorists.

Also remind him that such islolated "priests" have their own agenda and it has nothing to do with god, it has everything to do with real estate $$$.

this is not the greek orthodox church.

http://www.goarch.org

Archbishop Demetrios is the head of the Greek Chruch.

This is just some autocephalous faction, not the true Greek Orthodox church.

Keep in mind the Greek Cypriots are the ones who are taking in the Christian refugees.

keep in mind the Greeks did not screw the USA with fly over rights withholding ala some alies.

if you must condem the Greek Church for something then do it for some thing they actually do not this manure.

Since you're so knowledgeable, what do I say when she snidely responds that the Weapons of Mass destruction that weren't found were really just part of Bush's evil plan. I'm telling you this chick is way out there.

YOU ARE MISREPRESENTING THE GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH. tHIS IS NOT THE GREEK CHURCH.

This is the message from the head of the Greek Church:

Statement on the Crisis in the Middle East

August 2, 2006

These are terrible times, times we never thought we would see again. These are times of mourning, mourning for the hundreds who have already perished and the thousands who have been injured, or are homeless and living as refugees. These are times also for praying, praying to the almighty God that the violence will stop and that peace, justice, tranquility and prosperity will prevail for all the inhabitants of the Middle East, and especially in Israel and Lebanon, where the latest cycle of violence, war, and bloodshed has erupted.

The present hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have brought destruction and loss of life to both Lebanon and Israel. These are brought to our attention daily by the mass media. We are not and cannot be indifferent to the suffering of the inhabitants of Lebanon and Israel, Muslims, Christians and Jews.

We express our profound grief for all who have died and their mourning families and communities, for all who have lost their homes and their livelihood, and for the vast destruction of the land involved in the war.

We call upon our government and the United Nations to intercede and to initiate strong diplomatic efforts to envision, formulate, and enforce an immediate ceasefire and a just and lasting peace, since we painfully see that the bombing and destruction continues unabated. We call upon our President to speak for peace, and to support dialogue and diplomacy as the appropriate solution to conflicts.

We call upon all Greek Orthodox Christians in America to join us in prayer to the merciful God as we begin the fast for the Dormition of the Theotokos, on August 1. Let us all call upon the most-holy Mother of God to intercede for our suffering brothers and sisters throughout the Middle East.

Recognizing the humanitarian crisis resulting from the violence, we appeal to all our faithful to open their hearts and to offer whatever possible to their parishes for transmission to International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) for its efforts to provide humanitarian assistance on our behalf directly to the vulnerable and suffering people and communities.

With fervent prayers to the merciful and almighty God,

+DEMETRIOS
Archbishop of America

Your forgot how Hezbollah went into Israel and kidnapped those soldiers. Meanwhile, Israel had removed their soldiers from the blue line for some time now, leaving themselves somewhat vulnerable, all for the sake of peace.

Oh, Hezbollah has been launching rockets into Israel for a long time; this isn't anything really new.

Bottom line though I think you did cover it. Lebanon got into bed with Hezbollah. They don't need an army because they have one, by proxy, and it's Hezbollah.

Your "friend" is an idiot.

Why doesn't Israel fight Hezbollah on its own turf?

Yes, why don't they just go down to the Hezbollah Clubhouse and give them a sound thrashing?

If this isn't Warp 10 Dhimmitude, I don't know what is.

A long time ago in Greece, there was an Orthodox priest who over the years grew to be bothered by all the fuss made over him after worship services. He was a quiet man who releshed his privacy and so devised a way to make a hasty retreat after every sermon:

He would tether his donkey just outside the rectory window and when he was done with the service he would vault out the window onto his donkey and ride away to his home.

On Easter Sunday the parishioners decided to bake a lamb the old fashioned way in a fire pit. The only place to do this was in the alley next to the church, so they moved the priest's donkey over to the side a little dug their pit, lined it with rocks and laid the fire for their Easter feast.

The Easter service dragged on and on, it being a solemn occassion and before the incence had died away the priest dashed to the window and leaping without looking he landed square in the firepit.

The moral?

Sometimes even an Orthodox priest doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

THIS IS NOT THE GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, THIS TITLE IS INCORRECT!

http://www.antiochian.org/about

SEE:

""...The Antiochian Archdiocese, under the leadership of His Eminence Metropolitan Philip Saliba, sees itself on a mission to bring America to the ancient Orthodox Christian Faith. We join our brothers and sisters in the various other Orthodox Christian jurisdictions affiliated through SCOBA (the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the Americas) — Greek, Orthodox Church in America, Romanian, Ukrainian, and more — in this endeavor. In less than 20 years the Archdiocese has doubled in size to well over 200 churches and missions throughout the United States and Canada. ...""

The Greek Orthodox church is HERE http://www.goarch.org

DO NOT BE SUCKERD.
