My advice would be to put the heaviest stuff in the Explorer, and ship the light weight bulky stuff, like pillows, blankets, pots and pans etc.
Tie the bike on the front of the truck, or on the top.
Thanks for all the info!
Unfortunately, U-Haul will won't rent to Explorer drivers after the Firestone incident. Budget doesn't do 1-way shipping either.
I'm considering buying a small trailer, and selling it when I get there, but I think it'd be easier (and possibly cheaper considering gas prices) to ship some things. A friend has offered to let me keep boxes at his place, and send them when I have a job & $$. Time isn't really an issue.
I'll pick Redhead's brain a bit!
MY advice would be this: SELL everything you can't absolutely live without and replace it after you get up here. No sense paying freight/postage on tons of useless stuff you'll just have to put into storage when you arrive. Keep your lovie-blanket and your favorite coffee cup, but sell furniture, bedding, dishes (unless they are heirlooms, of course) and go light. It cost me $16,000 to move up here in August of last year. I wouldn't do it again.
