Make lots of money!
I worked grave just once, and I liked it well enough.
I used to grab breakfast and hit the hay when I got home in the morning, then get back up mid-late afternoon. That way, the 16-18 hours of my waking day encompassed the time when most everyone else was off work, too. That left my schedule open to get with friends for whatever was going on between 5pm and midnight.
The BEST part about it was that I NEVER had to deal with regular commute traffic. Nobody out but the CHP and the drunks when I was heading to work and, on the way home, I was going opposite the am rush. I good sitch all the way around, in my book.
When I send care packages to Iraq I use Canada Post, and so far everything I've sent has made it.
You could also check with Voyageur bus lines, or Greyhound. (especially for the tires). You have a car? Why not take the snow tires in the car?
Other than that, we usually use UPS.
That's so nice of NASA.
Here in Orange County NY I get to see lots of Semi-truck freight, and speeding kids.
Thanks fanfan, I'll check with Voyageur. I spoke to Greyhound, and they said that my bike & tires alone to AK would run $1200 to ship!
I have an Explorer, but it will be PACKED!
Does UPS ship from Canada, or do they route through Canada Post?
Most stuff going to AK goes by road to Seattle, then the Inland Passage to the closest destination to where you want to be. Redhead knows all the ins and outs of this having done it a time or two.
This time of year, it will be slow going, so if you don't need stuff, you might consider shipping it ahead, as the weather will soon begin to get ugly.
You may want to check with a moving company, as the prices may surprise you.
Yeah, well, some folks want one of their own, but in general RINO's are a real hard sell. You've gotta be somewhat of con man -- a real Johnny on-the-spot with the flim-flam -- to move very many of 'em.
So, when you consider all that plus the fact that they go bad if they sit on the shelf too long, I usually recommend that folks just devour them completely while they're still fresh off the stove. Don't keep 'em for more than a day, at any rate.
Now, some argue that day-old RINO's are better than fresh ones because the taste of pork has had time to suffuse through the whole pot, but others say they're better on the first day when the veggies are still more crisp; the onions, in particular, are better when a RINO is fresh.
My advice would be to put the heaviest stuff in the Explorer, and ship the light weight bulky stuff, like pillows, blankets, pots and pans etc.
Tie the bike on the front of the truck, or on the top.
On reading the later posts, you might do well to rent a U-Haul (Budget is cheaper) trailer to pull behind you and hold what you can't fit in your vehicle.
Hello beautiful!
Good idea Face.
Poor dog!
Thanks for all the info!
Unfortunately, U-Haul will won't rent to Explorer drivers after the Firestone incident. Budget doesn't do 1-way shipping either.
I'm considering buying a small trailer, and selling it when I get there, but I think it'd be easier (and possibly cheaper considering gas prices) to ship some things. A friend has offered to let me keep boxes at his place, and send them when I have a job & $$. Time isn't really an issue.
I'll pick Redhead's brain a bit!
