Fireside Chat with the Rector Returns! (The Most Politically Incorrect Priest in Christendom)
Fireside Chat with the Rector ^ | 7/01/2005 | sionnsar

Okay. Maybe he's not everyone's cuppa tea, but I've been reading the Fireside Chat with the Rector blog ever since I took over the Traditional Anglican ping list (and lamenting his two long absences). And even beyond the superficially placid English country rector persona of the prior blogs, he's been a hoot. The Father Jolly cartoons, for example:

And the (horribly unforgettable) Nasty Chasuble contest:

Only this time he's back with an attitude...

Ten Things I Would like to do to Irritate the Lefties...

10. I would re-name my parish "Blessed Herman the Cripple"...just because we are not supposed to call them "cripples" anymore.

9. I would start a Tuesday night assault-weapons guild under the patronage of St. George.

8. I would take up smoking (if it were not so bad for one's health) and smoke incessantly in my church office, just because there was a General Convention that decided we should not.

7. Bake sales to benefit the Israeli Air Force.

6. I would add the word "men" to as many hymns as I could (even when absolutely inappropriate), in order to counteract the drive to remove the word "men" from hymns.

5. Did I mention assault weapons?

4. I would make fox-hunting an every-other-Saturday parish activity.

3. Parishioners would be required to swear a blood-oath to fight Socialism. Union members would need to go through a background check to weed out Pinkos.

2. A confidence course would take the place of handicapped access...why not challenge people a little?

1. I would petition to have the parish annexed by the state of Texas

I like it!

He clearly has the right attitude.

I would think a skeet field and a plinking range ought to be installed first though, before moving on to the assault weapons training.

They should really sponsor bake sales to benefit the SERBIAN army and police, and celebrate St. Sava's Day and Vidovdan as well!!!!

We here in Texas would be honored to have the Rector and his parish, I'm sure. Don't know how he would like the Diocese of Texas (Houston), though. The bishop wrote a letter to the local "newspaper" (you should pardon the expression) which was published last Saturday, in which he stated that the diocese was part of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion and he intends to keep it that way. Unless the bishop is subtly preserving the possibility of a free hand in the event of a conflict between being Episcopalian and being a member of the Anglican Communion, it looks like he is going to go along to get along. This would certainly frustrate many of the Anglican faithful (including some very influential people, who know even more influential people, don't ya know) who are quite upset over the GC.

We cousins over on the Romeward side of the Tiber will keep the lights on, of course.

Well, now, I did take a small step towards #9. There's a young man in our Scout Troop (sponsored by our parish) who had almost finished Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge. All he needed to do was to demonstrate cleaning a shotgun. So I brought my shotgun to church during Men's Club one Monday night, and he sat there and cleaned it under my direction.

I was amazed that none of the ladies raised a fuss when they heard. Perhaps I should give them more credit.
