Catholic lay leaders support embattled priest (circulate petition to rescind Altier silence)
Speroforum ^ | May 5, 2006 | Martin Barillas

Posted on 05/06/2006 5:45:33 AM PDT by NYer

Leaders and members of several Roman Catholic lay organizations are circulating a petition addressed to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Minneapolis-St. Paul (MN) Harry J. Flynn to rescind an order silencing the popular priest, Rev. Robert Altier.

Kenneth M.  Fisher of California, founder of Concerned Roman Catholics of America, authored the petition,  which calls for the archbishop to “reconsider his unjust silencing of this good priest.”

Among the signatories currently are Mary Ann Kreitzer of Les Femmes, Georgene M. Sorenson of Romans in the Desert, Katherine Garrigan of Fidelity, and Valerie Lubitz, Michael A. Curtis, Carol Suhr – all of Los Pequeños de Cristo. Fisher vows to forward the petition and resolution to Archbishop Flynn, as well as the Apostolic Delegate in Washington DC and members of various dicasteries at the Vatican once a sufficient number of signatures are appended.

Rev. Robert Altier was ordered to cease the broadcast of his homilies and their publication on-line.

The letter sent by archbishop to the priest ordering him to desist has not yet been published, although a diocesan spokesman averred that it was because of Father Altier’s “contrarian” views about a Planned Parenthood-approved sexuality curriculum being proffered by the diocese to Catholic children. Father Altier has been outspoken in his dissent from Roman Catholic bishops who have selected such programs that have been approved by persons affiliated with pro-abortion organizations such as: Feminist Majority, and the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS).

In an homily delivered in 2005, Father Altier delivered a scathing denunciation of the VIRTUS program that had approval from Roman Catholic bishops.

Father Altier criticized the bishops’ recourse to “raising awareness” to sexual abuse and inappropriate touching of children by adults.

Father Altier especially scoured the bishops for hiring Teresa Kettelkamp – a Catholic educator who has received an award from the Feminist Majority, which is led by famed feminist and pro-abortion advocate Eleanor Smeal. Father Altier expressed concern over letters sent by Kettelkamp in the name of the bishops that require compliance with “Safe Touch” programs that have since come under fire by numerous Catholic lay people and organizations.

In a homily transcribed last year, Father Altier said “These things are nothing sort of disgusting, and, if I may say, they completely violate the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.”

Father Altier’s recorded homilies and on-line discussions of Catholic morality had gained a considerable following not only in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area but further abroad in the US. Saying this year during Lent that the silencing has been a “gift from God” and “I am merely an instrument that God is using for a much larger purpose.”

I hunted around for the aforementioned petition. It seems to not exist. A Voice in the Desert has more on this with comments by both Fr. Altier and the archbishop.

Dear Freepers in Christ,

Here are some recent emails that I have received from "A Voice in the Desert".

The First one is the earliest which I received early last week and the last one I received 4 weeks back.

They are quite optimistic that this web site will be up and running in the near future.

1)From:"email"

Subject:Re:A Belated and Holy Divine Mercy Sunday to you and to your Family.

Praised be Jesus Christ!

A glorious Easter season to you, -------.

Yes, we did receive your beautiful Divine Mercy card. It was a special feature for our day.

Please do not stop praying for the return of this website. God has a plan! Hopefully we can report good news in the near future.

We must continue to beseech Our Lord and Our Lady. God bless you!

2)From:"email"

To:"email DV"

Subject:New Desert Web Page: Letters from the Desert

Dear Friends of DesertVoice,

What did you go out to the desert to see - a reed swayed by the wind?

Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine garments?

Those who dress luxuriously and live sumptuously are found in royal palaces. Then what did you go out to see? - Saint Luke 7:24-26

One speaking the truth.

Now that voice has been silenced, but we want your voices to be heard.

So we have compiled excerpts of your messages to us in a new web page entitled Letters from the Desert.

Your prayers have been a very powerful support for Father Altier in these days, and his homilies seem even more inspired than ever.

A Voice in the Desert website was created for you, and we know you want your website back.Your words of testimony stand as a strong witness to the necessity of re-establishing this spiritual ministry.

As we enter now these final two weeks of Lent, a Lent which has been especially difficult - as Father Altier prophetically stated in his homily on February 13, 2006, when he said, "I submit to you that Lent this year may be quite different from any that we have ever known" - let us unite in offering to God our prayers and sacrifices, sufferings and trials, which are daily increasing for every single soul trying to live the life of Christ in the world today, that A Voice in the Desert will be heard again in this desert land.

United in the Passion of Our Lord,

DesertVoice Webmasters

P.S. Please visit www.desertvoice.org daily to show your support- and pass the word on!

3)From:"email"

Subject:the battle is definitely not over

Dear ------, our Beloved Soldier of Christ in India,

Praised be Jesus Christ!

Thanks for copying us on your latest letter to the Archbishop.

Want you to know we are thinking of you. Hope you like the Letters from the Desert.

If those testimonies can be seen far and wide, it may make a difference.

Pass the word on! -- and don't lose hope!

We're counting on you to get this out to blogs, the newspapers, the Vatican, even the secular press, anybody who has an ear.

Our hands are tied, but yours aren't, so please help. Sorry obedience has kept us from complying with your past requests, but you will understand. Our Lord conquered Satan through obedience; He will reward obedience and bring this website back to His sheep.

God bless you, DesertVoice Support

Dear sageb1,

Many Thanks for your message. Yes, I do have an interesting homepage.

Some Freepers absslutely hate it specially Anti- Catholic Freepers as well as Anti- Christian Freepers. But, i have no plans on making any apologies for my Homepage to any Freeper who does not like it.

I have a great devotion to the Homilies of Father Altier and I have already posted several of his past Homilies on some Threads here at FR over the past 1 month.

Would you like me to add you to my Ping list for Father Altier's Homilies ?

I am still recovering from an anti- catholic flame war on a certain thread where a certain freeper consistently attacked and demonized the Catholic Church.

IN THE RISEN LORD JESUS CHRIST AND IN THE IMMACULATE HEART OF HIS HOLY MOTHER MARY,

This is almost the exact thing my dad said many times...He was a WELS minister over 40 years...He passed away on 4/5/06.
