I was thinking what could the letters of the Holy Name of Maria represent in Latin and came up with the following -->
M = Mater
A = Advocata
R = Regina
I = Immaculata
A = Abdita
I had a tough time with the last "A" and got out a Latin dictionary. ABDITA means hidden, secluded, secret. I think that aptly described her life while here on earth and even now in Heaven because so many still refuse to accept or acknowldge her glories and powers. Even some who call themselves Christian reject her!
neat! A could also be "Assumpta".
Exactly! In the propers of the Traditional Latin Mass on the Feast of the Assumption, that word is used.
Alleluia, alleluia. Assumpta est Maria in caelum: gaudet excercitus Angelorum. Alleluia.
"Alleluia, alleluia. Mary has been assumed into heaven: the angelic host rejoices. Alleluia."
I have no scriptural authority for the status of Mary in heaven and so I choose not to speculate on it. Are you saying that makes me a non-Christian?
Add me to that list. Mary has/had no supernatural powers.
Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Assumpta. Thank-you! It was so obvious!
M = Mater
A = Advocata
R = Regina
I = Immaculata
A = Assumpta
1 John 2:1
¶My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin,
we have an advocate with the Father,
Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Well, it didn't take long....
MARY
Gen 5:24; Heb 11:5; 2 Kings 2:1-13 ... Enoch and Elijah taken to heaven.
Lk 1:28 ... annunciation.
Lk 1:42-48 ... blessed among women. All generations shall call her blessed.
2 Tim 4:8, Jas 1:12, 1 Pet 5:4, Rev 2:10 ... coronation awaits saints.
Jn 2:1-5 ... Marys intercession.
God's Holy Word calls me a Christian and I reject what some think she has power to do. She has no more power than your Christian neighbor who is also a saint, alive or dead.
And that would include the New Testament itself. Any Church which errs in Doctrine in one area could also err in another, no?
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
15 "The pillar and ground of the truth"... Therefore the church of the living God can never uphold error, nor bring in corruptions, superstition, or idolatry.
It's lovely.
You need to put devotional or soemthing in the tie title when you post things like this, though, or otherwise people assume that it is an invitation to argue theology. Which they have started as you can see.
But I am gloing to clip what you wrote. I especially like the last word, for A...because that describes her humility, and unwillingness to push herself forward so well.
So your POV is non-Catholic = non-Christian. I understand. I think some would think that is a pretty narrow definition of Christianity but I accept that you believe it sincerely. Best wishes and thanks for the response.
???
I have, by virtue of the priesthood of the believer with which I was endowed at my baptism, the supernatural power to intercede before the throne of God for the rest of humanity.
Are you saying that Mary doesn't have that power?
Do you think it's the goal of the Gospel to get you to heaven, where you can be irrelevant, helpless, and powerless? That's not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that the blessed saints in heaven will judge the angels, and are superior to them.
Beloved, we are God's children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. -- 1 John 3:2
The point is that the only advocate is Jesus Christ the righteous.
Are you familiar with the phrase "the prayer of a righteous man availeth much before God"?
You have freepmail. :)
