"We don't need to re-invent ourselves, but stay with the literature, the hymns, the worship that's been prayed down through the centuries," she said. "There's such a hunger for tradition and rootedness."

Just as long as you don't take seriously what tradition has to say about sexual morality!

Traditional Anglican ping, continued in memory of its founder Arlin Adams.

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this moderately high-volume ping list (typically 3-9 pings/day).

During times of turmoil and rifts in church life, Spangler said she stays grounded with prayer and the faith that God's love will prevail.

"Sometimes I don't know what it'll look like, but I know it's true and I can trust that," she said.

For her it may not be as pleasant as she thinks.

My wife was on my back for kayaks for three years. She says the speed boat is too fast. I told her no 'cause they are nothing more than speed bumps on the lake and generally operated by tree huggers and limp wrists. Finally I relented and got her one. Four days later I got one...and have developed a strange affinity for the color pink!

I confess I did some sea kayaking myself once upon a time. It sure was good exercise. My kids loved it too.

Well, ours are blue... but we really enjoy them. There's nothing quite like a quiet paddle about the lake. Haven't done an Eskimo roll since '89 or so, though... then again, haven't needed to. *\;-)

Have been considering taking a local baidarka construction class. (The baidarkas, Aleutian kayaks, are the most advanced of the native kayaks -- amazingly strong and light, and the most seaworthy.)

Well, ours are yellow and a sort of orange/yellow, which leaves me wondering where this affinity for pink comes from.

Truth be told, I love it! Every morning during the summer at the cottage (where there is no infernal computer!), I go out at 5:30 for a two mile paddle. Great exercise, then coffee, a shower and off to the office. I must say that by the middle of last summer, I hadn't felt so good in 20 years! I can't wait for ice out!

By the way, here's a picture of part of the southeast cove of our pond from the west side, in the Fall obviously.

Image hosting by Photobucket Here's mine. (Well, this particular one is not mine, but it looks just like it.)

It's not as easy for me to go out, though. It's a mile down and around the lake to the community beach, and I have to use the wife's car because this boat is rather a bit longer than my car, not to mention its cab!
