Moses said to the people:
“Today I have set before you
life and prosperity, death and doom.
If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God,
which I enjoin on you today,
loving him, and walking in his ways,
and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees,
you will live and grow numerous,
and the LORD, your God,
will bless you in the land you are entering to occupy.
If, however, you turn away your hearts and will not listen,
but are led astray and adore and serve other gods,
I tell you now that you will certainly perish;
you will not have a long life
on the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and occupy.
I call heaven and earth today to witness against you:
I have set before you life and death,
the blessing and the curse.
Choose life, then,
that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God,
heeding his voice, and holding fast to him.
For that will mean life for you,
a long life for you to live on the land that the LORD swore

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,

Dt 30:15-20 / Lk 9:22-25 Suicide is one of the most terrible things that any human being can do. Indeed, to most of us the thought of throwing away God’s gift of life is incomprehensible and inclines us to presume that the person who does so must be out of his mind, at least temporarily insane. Yet many of the choices that we make day by day certainly qualify as lesser versions of the very same thing, little suicides in which we kill a tiny part of ourselves. The most obvious examples, of course, involve things like substance abuse, chain smoking, compulsive eating and the like, which directly attack our bodies. It’s easy and obvious to say to ourselves, “Stop that before you kill yourself.” But there are all sorts of more subtle forms of slow suicide of the spirit. Cherishing grievances, hating, clinging to our things and refusing to share, using people instead of loving them, pretending we’re self-sufficient, pretending we don’t need God. And the list goes on and on. In today’s Old Testament reading, the Lord is speaking to this blind suicidal tendency in us all. “Choose life,” he says. Choose life, and don’t let appearances fool you as to where real life is. Jesus showed us what a real life looks like. As the days of Lent pass one by one, may your face and your heart come to look more and more like His. |
Thank you. If we are in danger for our sins, how must worse for a priest who may have led others astray and how much more for a bishop or Abp. who may have led even more astray?

I wonder if y'all got my long message regarding the Persecution launched by the Archbishop of Minneapolis against Father Robert Altier in Catholic Caucus Readings for Ash Wednesday. I am posting it again for all who did not get it.
All that he has done is preach Solid Catholic Homilies on the Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady, The Spiritual Life, and The Saints among other things.
I wonder what is wrong in doing what he did. I strongly believe that there is something seriously wrong with Archbishop Flynn in banning that Poor, Faithful, and Orthodox Catholic Priest.
If anyone is interested specially Fatima or Salvation. i would like to post an email that Father Altier had sent me with regard to a talk on Saint Michael which he had done in September 2005.
Let me know if y'all would like me to post it on the thread here or individually to anyone by a private message.

This is an Emergency Request for prayers and to storm heaven for Father Robert Altier.
For All of us who love his solid "Orthodox" Homilies which are posted by Salvation on this thread; this will come not only as a nasty shock but this is sheer persecution by Archbishop Flynn of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis.
Please check out http://www.desertvoice.org/Censored.html and you will know what I am talking about. Father Robert Altier has been banned by the Archbishop of Minneapolis from publishing his homilies on "A Voice in the Desert".
He has also been banned from speaking on Relevant Radio. Most parts of the web site have been shut down as a result of this catastrophic and oppressive decision by the Archbsihop of Minneapolis.
Now, one cannot access the Homilies that are posted on a daily basis on the web page that says Audio or listen to them. Nor can one access Homilies that are posted in the Microsoft Word Format or the Highlights Section or just anything at all.
I greatly fear that this awesome web site will be pulled down as soon as possible and made functional, as Father Robert Altier and his Parishioners who post these Homilies are being persecuted by the raving liberal Archbishop of Minneapolis.
Please forward this to all Orthodox Catholic Freepers on this thread or all Freepers who are Catholic and love Father Altier's Homilies. We need to storm heaven for him like nobody's business.
Imagine an Archbishop persecuting him. For some time now, I have been in touch with Parishioners from his Parish who have been constantly asking me to pray for Father Altier's Ministry.
Looks like they suspected something like this would happen to him. Poor Father Altier is being persecuted.
I don't think that Father Altier ever led others astray.
Do a search for Readings and read some of his wonderful, orthodox homilies posted previously on other days.
Go ahead and send us the email if you think it will help the cause of getting Father Altier reinstated on his website.
Oh, no, I was only talking in general terms, not meaning to refer to Father Altier, just that it is a tough burden for all priests and bishops. I was talking about those very things a fine priest told us about the burdens they carry.
How sad. I will be sending an email to that Bishop.
Archbishop Flynn is going to be 73 in a few weeks.

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has now mandated one of the most controversial “safe touch” programs in existence called, “Talking about Touching” (2/16/06 edition of the Catholic Spirit newspaper). In the fall of 2006 - 2007, all children in Catholic schools and religious education programs, grades K - 4, will be subjected to "Talking about Touching".

Archbishop Harry Flynn has decided to allow individual pastors who think "Talking about Touching" is not appropriate for children to petition him for another program, as long as it fits within the guidelines of the USCCB.
One Catholic program, which was developed by the Diocese of Harrisburg, PA., is being used by several other dioceses. The Harrisburg PA program includes "Formation in Christian Chastity", which we think does a good job of recognizing parents as the primary educators of their children and the virtue of Chastity seems to be a key element of the program. The Harrisburg PA program uses a "Safe Environment" program which is primarily a child safety program (no sex ed). It includes materials for parents from the "National Center for Missing and Exploited Children".
We think the The Harrisburg PA program contains solid Catholic teaching and is a far better option than "Talking about Touching". To review this program, go to: Diocese of Harrisburg and then click on "Religious Education" (on left side of screen) and see: "FORMATION IN CHRISTIAN CHASTITY PROGRAM" and "SAFE ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM".
CPO believes every parent should read the Vatican document, "The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality", which says only parents are in the unique position to know what is appropriate for their own children.... Important Points Concerning the Virtus/Safe Environment Program and "The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality". Therefore CPO does not recommend any one specific program. We believe parents have the right to reject any program they see unfit for their child(ren).
However, if after reviewing The Harrisburg PA program , (see link above) a parent thinks that it is appropriate for their child(ren) then we suggest bringing this information to your pastor as soon as possible!
