Calif. Episcopal Diocese Nominates Gay, Lesbian Ministers as Next Bishop
The Episcopal diocese of California nominated an openly gay man and lesbian woman to be its next bishop, reigniting the flame over homosexuality that has nearly divided the worldwide Anglican Communion.
According to the Church of England Newspaper, the Diocese of California included the Rev. Robert Taylor, Dean of Seattle, and the Rev Bonnie Perry, Rector of All Saints Church in Chicago, on the list of five nominees for election in May.
The gay-rights group Integrity welcomed the nomination, saying that Whether or not Robert or Bonnie is elected by the Diocese of California, it is inevitable that another gay or lesbian person will eventually elected, confirmed and consecrated.
The controversy surrounding homosexuality exploded in 2003 when the Episcopal Church USA elected an openly gay man as bishop of New Hampshire. Since then, the worldwide communion nearly split over geographical lines the more conservative Southern churches in Africa, Asia and Latin America versus the more liberal Northern churches in North America and Europe.
Under the direction of the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, the communion also produced a 100-page study called the Windsor Report that was meant to serve as a guideline for dialogue between the opposing parties. Among the recommendations was for the ECUSA to place a moratorium on the appointment of gay bishops in the Anglican Communion.
Taking note of this recommendation, Williams expressed his unease over the Diocese of Californias new move.
If there is ever to be a change on the discipline and teaching of the Anglican Communion [on homosexuality] it should not be the decision of one church alone, he said.
The Church must have the highest degree of consensus for such a radical change, Williams argued, saying he was uneasy about how the ECUSA has handled this issue.
To be elected as bishop the nominee must first win the majority of votes within the California diocese in May. The winner must then have their election affirmed by the Churchs General Convention in June.
Honestly, do some of thesse people EVER read the Bible?
So, your gay bishop in New Hampshire shredded the national episcopal church, brought jihad against millions of African christians, became the central concern of the church of England, knocked genuine ecumenism back a century, and brought the ECUSA to the verge of bankrupcy while the bishop had to go off to rehab.
I can't believe I have Dr. Phil in my head, but I have to ask, "Haow's that werkin' fer ya?"

New Hampshire Bishop V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church, is undergoing treatment for his "increasing dependence on alcohol," Robinson said in a letter to the 49 churches in his diocese.
Robinson, 58, voluntarily checked himself into an undisclosed facility on Feb. 1 for a four-week stay. Robinson said in the letter, dated Monday (Feb. 13), that he had the support of his partner, Mark Andrew, and his two daughters. .......

Since when did we get approval to "change" the Word? And what the matter how many churches agree?
"And what the matter how many churches agree?"
There in one sentence you just covered all of the problems with ECUSA and all over the left wing of the theological spectrum (Protestantism). God did not found churches (plural). He founded a church (singular).
Rev 2 & 3: "Hear what the Spirit says to the Churches..."
"Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her."
It's used BOTH ways in the bible.
We cannot change the word of God. There is no way to make the Word say that the deadly practice of homosexuality is acceptable.
I read an interesting article, however, that shows the silly arguments of those who make such efforts. The article pointed out that they are not attempting to convince anyone outside their "reach" that they have valid biblical input. They are simply attempting to provide a "dodge" to those who want to engage in that sinful practice and attend a church.
Therefore, they make outlandish claims that "homosexuality" is not the problem in the Sodom story in Genesis, but that "group rape" or "inhospitality" is the problem.
They're not interested in scholarship; they're interested in a utilitarian rationalization.

EPISCOPAL BISHOP ISSUES JIHAD AGAINST CARTOON DEPICTING JESUS AS "SON OF GOD"
(Fire Island, NY) -- The Right Reverend Percy Dovetonsils III, Bishop Suffragan for the Diocese of Fire Island, Provincetown and San Francisco, today called for the beheading of the entire editorial staff of Catholic Monthly for publishing a cartoon in which Jesus of Nazareth is depicted as being the "Son of God."
The cartoon, published in the October 12, 2005 edition of the magazine, and titled "Jesus Raising Lazarus from the Dead," shows a halo-crowned Jesus miraculously bringing Lazarus back to life. In contemporary Episcopalian theology, all references to religion, miracles, holiness, God, and the Bible are considered to be blasphemous -- distracting believers from more important religious priorities such as promoting same-sex marriage and voting rights for illegal immigrants.
"The pictorial representation of the alleged divinity of the notorious Jewish political leader variously known as Jesus, the Son of Man, and the Son of God is deeply offensive to all progressive-minded Episcopalians," said Bishop Dovetonsils this morning at the annual Solidarity Breakfast of the anti-1st Amendment lobbying group, Episcopalians Against Christianity.......
