Several news stories today are reporting on the decision by Comedy Central to pull a scheduled rerun of the Bloody Mary episode that was shown on South Park on December 7-10. The decision reflects what I asked for in our news release of December 8. Therefore, I commend Comedy Central for finally making the right decision. That it aired in the first place, however, does not speak well for the bigots responsible for creating it.
In our December 8 news release, I also said, Remember, they chose to insult Our Blessed Mother on the eve of the Immaculate Conception, and the holy day itself. The episode in question featured a statue of the Virgin Mary spraying blood from her vagina. It was one of the most vile TV shows ever to appear, and that is why I asked Joseph Califano, a practicing Catholic and member of Viacoms board of directors (Viacom is the parent company of Comedy Central) to issue a public condemnation of the Bloody Mary episode; I also asked that he do whatever he could to pull any scheduled reruns of the episode.
On December 9, the day Califano received our request, he released a statement condemning the episode. He also said that any further decisions would have to be made by Tom Freston, president and chief executive of the New Viacom. For the past few weeks, we have been in touch with Frestons office awaiting his decision. Yesterday, we received a phone call from Tony Fox, executive vice president for corporate communications at Comedy Central, informing us that there were no plans to rerun Bloody Mary.
Already, we are being deluged with hate mail that is as obscene as it is viciously anti-Catholic. All because we exercised our First Amendment right to request that Comedy Central not offend Catholics again! But were used to such things and will not be deterred.
Yeah, just keep telling yourselves that...
The point is, some sacred cows can't be touched, yet others highest beliefs are freely trampled without fear of any repercussions whatsoever. It has become totally PC to mock Christians, our God, our Savior, Christmas, and us when we bring it up. Most people have become so hypnotized and brainwashed by the TV culture that they can't even see the truth anymore.
There is a battle going on between good and evil. If you were truly a Christian you would know that.
Nevertheless, so many fools have acted asinine in these "Marian apparitions" that is ripe for satire. Trey Parker was raised Catholic, and knows all too well the folks who see the Virgin in everything from Tortillas to Grass stains.
So just because I think people are making too big of a deal over something in a cartoon show, I'm not a true Catholic?
And here I thought our days of excommunicating people were over!
Again, that is mocking people and culture. I find making fun of say, Jimmy Swaggart, hilarious. It is a different thing altogether to mock the Lord. I really really, would like to hear about an episode making light of the Lord God HaShem, if anyone knows of one.
Choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
You guys are sounding more and more like zealots by the moment. Why would God make me choose between Him and South Park? There is no commandment: "Thou shalt not watch South Park." I don't feel that God would be ever be so petty so as to disallow something that makes me laugh. God is above our mortal emotions, is He not? South Park has great messages, and by focusing on only the silly humor, which may I say they do about everyone and everything, people are merely missing out on some of the most brilliant social/political/moral satire around.
You gotta have alligator skin to be on Free Republic! That is an immutable rule here!
I think scripture refers to this as a "strong delusion." Very appropriate.
You just keep the compliments coming! after all, Jesus was a zealot.
And the episode which had the nun instructing on "eating the crackers" and got the boys to question how the physically and mentally handicapped will go to heaven was so filled with ignorance and error as to Catholic teachings ... and funny as all get out!!
Catholics who keep *seeing* the Blessed Mother in everything from a cheese sandwich to a rust stain on a wall fail COMPLETELY in their understanding of just who she is and why she was assumed into heaven. Just my two lil Lincolns.
You are to be in the world, but not, of the world. That's the key.
How are you to know that God particularly finds what was in this episode wrong and sinful?
They neither humiliate nor revile Him. The one portrayed the worst is Satan--he was shown as Saddam Hussein's gay lover, after all.
You just told me they portray God as a giant lizard. You are very confused.
How's that humiliating and reviling?
The Lord is Spirit, Holy and Ineffable. He is not a giant lizard. Lizards are low things, things that creep, also associated in the bible with demons. They are a created thing, considered unclean. To equate our Lord with such a creature, is loathesome to say the least.
I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation
