Scandal at Saint Joseph’s University Continues under Different Name

When you think the Holy Catholic Church cannot possibly endure further attacks or dissent from within, something painfully happens to prove the contrary.

According to Saint Joseph’s University newspaper, The Hawk, a pro-homosexual event known on campus as “Rainbow Week” was renamed this year for “Unity Week” to avoid protest. “Scheduled to begin October 30, Unity Week will follow in the Rainbow Week tradition of educating and promoting acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students and faculty.”

What happened on campus in 2004 shocked many Catholics, when the Jesuit University held its fourth annual “Rainbow Week.” A Mass for “Rainbow Week” was celebrated in the campus chapel and -- among other objectionable activities – a morally offensive exhibit titled “Love Makes a Family” displayed photos of “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People and Their Families” in Campion Lounge.

Bishop Joseph P. McFadden, auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia, objected to “Rainbow Week.” In The Catholic Standard & Times of November 4, 2004, he said: “The mission of Saint Joseph’s as a Catholic institution is to teach the truth, and present Catholic moral teachings clearly in light of the teachings of the Church…We can’t give the impression that there are multiple truths.”

The Hawk responded to Bishop McFadden’s concerns with an insolent editorial: “Our programs were not specifically attempting to accomplish the goal of teaching Catholic truth, if there is such a thing.”

This year’s schedule of events for “Unity Week” includes titles such as: The Way We Never Were: The Amazing History of Marriage; Straight Talk about Sexuality & Sexual Difference; Presenting Gays in the Media; Annual Speak Out; and Making Saint Joseph’s Yours: Gay and Lesbian Alums Share Their Experience.

“This event mocks morality and departs from 2,000 years of Church teaching and natural law. Truth and falsehood can never be given equal treatment. True unity can only be achieved when it’s based on truth. Catholics must prayerfully protest this event which attempts to gloss over the danger of sin. Saint Ignatius must be turning in his grave,” said TFP Student Action director John Ritchie.

Let us send a peaceful and respectful message to the administrators of Saint Joseph’s University. Let us remind them of their responsibility before God. It is the least we can do for the good of an entire generation of college students whose souls are in peril.

They are crucifying Christ over and over with no remorse for their sins.

"The Hawk responded to Bishop McFadden’s concerns with an insolent editorial: “Our programs were not specifically attempting to accomplish the goal of teaching Catholic truth, if there is such a thing.”"

Throw whoever wrote that editorial out of the school. Immediately.

I don't even know if the author even thought of what he was typing there. Ouch, indeed.

Probably he'd been threatened with Serious Bodily Harm if he used an adjective when he needed an adverb ... but was never cautioned about the reverse offense. It kind of makes you think ... "something painfully happened." Childbirth painfully happened to me several times, but having it happen painlessly isn't really an option, in spite of modern medicine.

From the email I got:

  SIGN YOUR E-PROTEST HERE

Join thousands of other young Catholics who protest this departure from 2,000 years of Church teaching and natural law. You’ve helped me oppose things like this in the past, and I urge you to speak out for morality again TODAY.

    Here’s what you can do:

  1. Send your e-protest card to the president of St. Joseph’s University, Fr. Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., by clicking here.
  2. Contact your friends. Urge them to stand up for morality and America’s Christian heritage at a time when so many turn against it. Forward this message to at least 5 more people – or even your entire address book.
  3. Pray an extra Rosary in reparation for the sins on college campuses that most offend God.

It's a Catholic institution, but the goal is not to teach Cathlic truth? Then he adds insult to injury by adding, "if there is such a thing." Either this school is wofully inadequate or the subversives are attempting a takeover.

"or the subversives are attempting a takeover."

Looks like they sacked the place some time ago.

Is The Hawk university-funded? Sack the editor.

Ah, yes. Their current editorial is entitled, "Today No Time for American Nationalism."

Seems to me that someone needs to take these lads by the ear. Eh, I'm ashamed to say that I was one of them less than 5 years ago.

Give me a break. If Cardinal Rigali had a bit of decency, he would place the priests who run the place under interdict and forbid them from giving the sacraments until they relent.

Agreed. I don't think it's overly dramatic to suggest that every single parish/school/shrine/convent that unabashedly and unapologically supports the right to sodomy should be placed under interdict, and pronto.

Either they are Catholic or they are not. If they want to support sodomy, they should consider ceasing to refer to themselves as Catholic. Maybe the Jesuit order should be suppressed by Rome as a den of heretics, just as it was in the 18th century.

The Jesuits introduced the Chinese and Indian rites controversies in the 18th century.

The Jesuits introduced the Chinese and Indian rites controversies in the 18th century.

That they did, although they were a different animal then and I believe they have largely been vindicated in the Rites controversy. I believe Pius XII finally allowed the rites.

But if their modern confreres think they will be someday vindicated in this regard, they got another thing coming.
