Press Release Source: Rainbow Sash Movement
The Following Statement Has Been Issued by the Rainbow Sash Movement: Pentecost Once Again Calls for Dialogue on Gay/Lesbian Catholics Sunday May 15, 9:28 pm ET
CHICAGO, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Pentecost has come and gone, and the sky has not fallen. For members of the Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM) nationally it was a time of deep prayer. Around the Nation members of the Rainbow Sash Movement entered Cathedrals and parishes. Such as Rochester New York where individuals tried to block the way of Rainbow Sash Members from receiving communion. Eventually the Rainbow Sash Members received communion with the support of fellow parishioners. In the Archdiocese of Chicago Cardinal Francis George issued orders that Rainbow Sash Movement members were not to be given Communion at Holy Name Cathedral. In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles a warm welcome was given the members of the Rainbow Sash Movement who entered Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral, because of this warm welcome members decided not to wear their Rainbow Sashes.
In Minneapolis/St Paul Archbishop Harry Flynn who had given RSM members communion in the past refused communion to more than 100 Rainbow Sash Movement supporters. The Archbishop said his decision was based on a Vatican. The National Rainbow Sash Movement leadership is calling for dialogue with Archbishop Harry Flynn.
Today we have seen a Church that is struggling with the issue of gay/lesbian Catholics. Contrary to the Vatican, and other conservative sources Catholics are not all on the same page with this matter. The public symbolic dialogue will continue in November at the yearly meeting of the National Council of Catholic Bishops. There once again the Rainbow Sash Movement will call for collegial dialogue with the Catholic Bishops of the United States.

Note to self: Send Vatican document fedex to Cardinal Mahony ASAP----
LETTER TO THE BISHOPS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON THE PASTORAL CARE OF HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS
Perhaps the new head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith could have a little "come to Jesus" talk with Cardinal Mahony...after all, they are lifelong pals...
Sure thing, as soon as the Gay and Lesbian movement opens a dialogue on opposing abortion and supporting the war.
So they didn't wear their "rainbow sashes" in L.A.
Didn't feel they needed to wear their "armor" in protest then? Is that it?
So, did they go undercover then?
If not, then they must've made their "presence" known to warrant a "warm welcome" then, no?
Which is it? And if they did make their presence known, did Mahony (or whoever was presiding) knowingly give them communion?
Or not, because they didn't make their presence known, and was welcomed warmly as your average parishioners.
Would be interesting to know what exactly happened.
Not at my church ... this morning at Mass, a gay sash-wearing guy with a video camera was tossed out (given a dose of religion by the policeman) trying to film his buddy (supported there by their parents) attempting to receive Holy Communion. They were all ordered out.. the Dastards!! Why do they insist on defiling the Catholic Church in these high school shows of defiance .. get their own dang Church where they're free to make their own rules. What's the heck is the payoff for this stupid childishness?
It may be that a rainbow sash is no longer the homosexual protest symbol of choice as the Archdiocese of Los Angeles now markets and sells homosexual rainbow fish pins...
--see the rainbow fish pins here -at the link click on the ENTER monotone (heterosexual/homophobic?) fish symbol:
Archdiocese of Los Angeles | Ministry with Lesbian and Gay Catholics
See in the fish pin a sign of recognition of our lesbian and gay sisters and brothers. The pin signals solidarity with all people of faith who promote justice and inclusivity for every person in their faith communities. The Ministry with Lesbian and Gay Catholics is a Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, founded by His Eminence Roger Cardinal Mahony, on February 4, 1986, and is supported throughout the Archdiocese at the parish level as an active outreach ministry with lesbian and gay Catholics, their parents, families, and friends.
EARLY CHRISTIANS RECOGNIZED EACH OTHER BY THE SIGN OF THE FISH
IT MAY BE THAT HOMOSEXUAL 'CATHOLICS' IN LOS ANGELES RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER BY THE SIGN OF THE RAINBOW FISH NOW RATHER THAN THE RAINBOW SASH????
"Zaccheaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house. And he came down quickly and received him with joy. When they all saw this, they began to grumble, saying, He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner." Luke 19:5-7
1. The Ministry With Lesbian and Gay Catholics (MLGC) recognizes that all persons with a homosexual orientation are capable of living a full Catholic life in union with all the members of the Church.
2. MLGC has as its primary goal "to foster a spirit of community and fellowship among gay Catholics so that they can offer and receive mutual support in living our their lives of faith with the Church." (Archbishop Roger Mahony, (2-2-86).
3. MLGC takes its inspiration from the Gospel; is shaped by Church teachings and pastoral practice; borrows appropriately from the insights of the social and biological sciences; and listens, ponders and prays over the lived experience of those to whom it ministers.
4. MLGC calls on concerned Catholics and all people of good will to know and share in the challenges, burdens and blessings of homosexual persons living a Christian life within the Catholic tradition.
5. MLGC chooses to follow a prudent pastoral course, accepting people where they are in their discipleship with Jesus Christ, and their membership in the Church, and challenging them to live out fully the call of Christ and the teachings of the Church.
6. MLGC supports movements for homosexual and lesbian persons that are consonant with Church teaching, especially those which safeguard human dignity and promote human rights.
7. MLGC supports the Churchs pastors in condemning any treatment in which lesbians and homosexual men are the object of violent malice in speech, action, and law, wherever it occurs.
8. Concomitant with ministry to homosexual men and women, yet distinct from it, MLGC offers care to all persons living with HIV/AIDS. "Our fidelity to the teachings and example of Jesus Christ make it a moral imperative that we, like Him, reach out in a loving manner to give spiritual and physical help to those who suffer." (Archbishop Mahonyp>
Archbishop mahoney is probably gay himself.... from what I have heard from friends who live in his area. Somebody suggests that he has guy-friend or TWO, to take on vacations with him....fun in the sun, so to speak.
would not surprise me in the least, my friend ;)
