Prayer for the Election of a Pope - Lord God, you are our eternal shepherd and guide. In your mercy grant your Church a shepherd who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect, Mass for the Election of a Pope, Roman Missal)

There is great hand wringing, gnashing of teeth and howls of pain from the libs. A beautiful sight!

A Baptist Amen to that!

Sombody at EWTN was guessing to much.

The first time I hit this link: http://www.ewtn.com/pope/life/index.asp
I saw Pius XIII in the packground.
I hit refresh and it said Benedict XVI.

Funny story you recounted. I suspect the pastoral associate nun at our (former) parish is sick to her stomach at this time. She is an advocate of women priests and an active member of VOTF (probably only because there isn't an active chapter of WeAreChurch or WomynPriests or CTA around) and basically a liberal Episcopalian.

Please God, make me humble (I am already grateful) that I don't savor this moment while gloating somewhat. BUT I JUST CAN'T HELP IT!!!

Thank you. It means a lot to me that you feel that way.

Is it appropriate to say congratulations to Catholics today?

The link will still show his picture, just now it has a heading text of Benedict XVI and not PIUS XIII.

What do I win for picking Benedict on "Name That Pope" here?

Same prize if you won "Find-a The Pope in The Pizza"

When I was in college, I was a history major before I switched to English in grad school. I wanted to be a great medievalist, but it was not to be...I chose being a good daughter over being a great scholar...

I know just enough history to be dangerous. but, one of my favorite books of all time is A Distant Mirror so I'm somewhat redeemable.
