Prayer for the Election of a Pope - Lord God, you are our eternal shepherd and guide. In your mercy grant your Church a shepherd who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect, Mass for the Election of a Pope, Roman Missal)

They've got an excellent view....I just think now that it's abut 7:30 Rome time, we can sort of think that the voting's probably not going to start until tomorrow.

That's right...all the other Cardinals named earlier have gotten too old or passed on, except for Sin and Ratzinger.

I know he wasn't named by JPII, that doesn't mean he's not worthy of becoming the next Pope. He has a lot of GOOD attributes that would carry the Church forward.

I believe that God works in ways we cannot begin to fathom. Who's to say (though there will be many, complete with chapter and verse) that when all is said and done, at the moment of death, Jesus calls us to sit beside him. We are in ecstasy, and realize that those around us are of many faiths (I know, you can't tell in the robes we'll be wearing, maybe there are nametags).

What if God has revealed Jesus to them within their own doctrines and, they have the opportunity to accept him in their hearts at death as I hope we Christians will?

I think they do an initial vote no matter what - even if it's strictly ceremonial and everyone chooses their favorite "write-in" candidate (longshots)...

But I might be wrong...

This is probably true.

But there are some in there that the Spirit would have to work overtime to keep from really hurting the faith....

I anticipate smoke soon.
Several commentators have claimed we'd be told were they not voting today.

I bet the Cardinals have a pretty good game of Texas Hold'em going in there. ;OP

Dear Knitting A Conundrum,

In reading about the voting process, it seems to me that if they started voting at 7 pm local time, it could be quite a while before a vote is completed and counted.

The hymn is a paraphrase (originally in German, then translated again into English) of Veni Creator.
The third verse seems especially fitting in these days when the orthodox of every ecclesial community are under fierce attack.

I anticipate smoke too, even if it is ceremonial.

I think something by Aquinas might be just a LITTLE more appropriate for a conclave, no?

Dear Knitting A Conundrum,

LOL. I had the CBS live feed going on my PC, but it was slowing everyting else down too much.

I figure I'll just hang out at FR. I'll probably get the news faster through FR than watching CBS or any other part of the lamestream media. ;-)

I getcha, I was mentioning the exceptions to your "because each one was handpicked to be Cardinals by JPII himself" comment, not related to worthiness.

I actually read The Ratzinger Report when I was a young teen and remember liking it a great deal.

What did Mother Teresa say?

We are to help Buddhists be good Buddhists, to help Jews be good Jews, to help Muslims be good Muslims.

What did Our Lord say?

"Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..."
Matthew 28:19-20
