Pinellas Park, FL (LifeNews.com) -- A leading Catholic priest who visited Terri Schiavo on two separate occasions in the hours before her death says Terri was in a weakened medical condition from 13 days of starvation but was responsive until her death. The disabled woman even prayed with her family. "Last night, I spent about two hours with her until past midnight, together with Bobby Schindler and Suzanne, and then again this morning for about an hour and a half, and then right up until about ten minutes before she died," Father Frank Pavone said.
Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, said most of the time was spent in prayer with and for Terri and telling her that people across the country supported her.
When he prayed, Pavone said "She was very responsive -- closing her eyes when I said, 'Let's pray together, Terri,' opening them up after the prayer." Pavone made the remarks in an interview with Renew America, a grassroots organization headed by former presidential candidate Alan Keyes.
He indicated Terri was smiling and "returning the kiss of her father" as well as "turning her eyes to me when I spoke to her."
"In many other ways, as well, responsive," Pavone added.
"Even today, although, of course, with the effects of the dehydration, her response was much less," Pavone told Renew America. "Nevertheless, her eyes were open, her eyes were moving, and as I prayed with her." Pavone talked about how Terri Schiavo's plight and the national debate surrounding her life and death will continue as the nation grapples with end of life issues.
"Terri didn't die today from anything except the fact that her food and water were withheld for the last two weeks," he said. "She had no other underlying illness whatsoever. This is a case of throwing away a disabled person
"And we have to ask ourselves, has our nation now begun to go down the road of killing those who are disabled, simply because somebody says that they want to be killed," Pavone concluded.
Felos said the staff asked them to leave. The brother protested with the policeman there.
The staff then told Michael that death was imminent and that the brother was arguing with the policeman .Then Michael Schiavo decided to exclude the Schindlers'family from the room.Felos was very clear that it was Michael's decision.
"Fr. Frank Pavone, a family spiritual adviser, told reporters he was in Terri's room at Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla., about 15 minutes before she died.
But Pavone said he was instructed to leave 10 minutes before her death by order of Michael Schiavo, who was with Terri when she died.
"His heartless cruelty continues until this very last moment," Pavone said of Terri's estranged husband, who for 10 years has lived with another woman with whom he has two children."

Thread title:
Catholic Priest: Terri Schiavo Responsive Til Death, Prayed With Family ^
How does he know she was responsive til death if he was not there up to the time of death?
That's like me saying the Superbowl game was great and I enjoyed watching the entire game. Except the small fact I left at halftime.
The part that bugs me is it's called "lying". he wasn't there up until death, so he doesn't know. Does he?
I don't care what World Nut Daily says. I watched the entire interview Pavone gave. That is NOT what he said. He said the hospice medical staff came in to do some work on her. The "heartless cruelty" he referred to was that when Terri died, Michael wanted to be in there with her alone and not allow the parents in. But it was not Michael, according to Pavone in the interview he gave on Fox News, that "kicked them out". I am only repeating what I saw.
"That's like me saying the Superbowl game was great and I enjoyed watching the entire game. Except the small fact I left at halftime."
No, that's like you watching all but the last five minutes of a 47-6 Superbowl Game, then leaving when the winning team is running out the clock on those last five minutes.
Nothing significant happened in the last five minutes, so if somebody asked you if you saw the game, you'd be perfectly justified in saying you had.
Talk about a distinction without a difference.
"I am checking his website, and I will let you know if it comes up there."
Thank you. I want to get the straight scoop on that, too.
nothing on there yet

Father Pavone did say what happened was a "killing".
The reporter towards the end says that the family was upset that Michael refused to allow Terris blood family to be there when she died. That may be, but I didn't hear Pavone say that. I did hear him say that the medical staff asked them to leave tho so they could work on her. It may be that they (medical/hospice staff) realized she was about to go and the Schindlers wanted back in and Michael stopped them which sounds like what happened. I can sympathize with them. I had a relative die and didn't find out for days. They died with no will yet I knew their wishes, but the legal minds I spoke to said "wishes" dont hold in a court of law. Hmmph. I had no say in anything after that and it was a very very bitter pill to swallow and would still eat at me if by the grace of god I had not forgiven them, whether they asked for or deserved it or not. What a very sad day this is, and very dangerous precedent has been laid for terminally ill govt insurance patients.
Did you see his interview right afterwards??
Fine, she was responsive for the 15 years of her disabled life up until 10 minutes before she died. What is the big deal? When comparing the last 13 days of her process of death, ten minutes are insignificant. You seem to be simply trying to make the good priest out to be some kind of lunatic liar.
Father Frank Pavone bump.
May Terri rest in peace.
"That may be, but I didn't hear Pavone say that."
Maybe he found out between the time he gave the interview you saw and the time the articles were written.
"Yes, he did indeed. I don't believe death by starvation is euthanasia"
What is it, then?
Witholding food and water from a disabled person?
Torture? Murder?
I am watching Jay Sekulow on Nancy Grace. He is hitting the nail on the head.
SEKULOW: Let me tell you where. It's exactly what the judges that have dissented in this case have said, and that is this. You have a situation where normally the husband is the guardian. But here you had a different situation. The husband was the guardian, but the husband had another family. And guardians aren't supposed to have conflicts of interest
And I believe he had the ultimate conflict of interest. And that was a due process violation. It should have been brought in at the beginning.
HANNITY: Hey...
CRIER: Jay, that is not fair. Hold on, Sean. Jay, that's not fair, and you know that's not fair, Jay.
HANNITY: Catherine, let me jump for a second.
CRIER: Because, in fact, this man was actually chastised by the people who were caring for her in the first three years because he was so adamant about her care and about rehabilitation that they actually said, "Shut up, Michael."
SEKULOW: Catherine, you didn't listen to a word I just said. What I said was he made the decision to have another family about seven years ago. That's when all of a sudden this living will -- which wasn't a will, of course, it was oral statements -- were made. And how are you the guardian of trustee when you're not independent or you have no conflict of interest? You know, if you were a guardian or a trustee of a bank, you can't...

"Torture? Murder?"
I'll buy that.
