ROME - As throngs of pilgrims converged on St. Peter's Square this Holy Week, a smaller number sought out a chapel in the city's center for a service very different from the pomp and ceremony of the Vatican.
Inside the 17th century Oratory of St. Francis Xavier, at Via Caravita 7, American Jesuit priests conduct Masses that seem straight out of the Vatican II era of reforms.

From the article:
"A curious Roman peeking inside recently saw no pews - just plastic chairs circled around a simple altar table in stark contrast to the now-unused baroque altar and the lush 17th century art of the marbled chapel surrounding them. "This place isn't Catholic, is it?" he said."
Jesuits in action.

Pecklers, 47, who teaches liturgy at the Gregorian University in Rome, prides himself on his orthodoxy. But he is one of a group of Jesuits in Rome whose goal is "to help build a new model of church." The Caravita community welcomes all kinds of people of all faiths, he says, and he makes a special point of welcoming Catholics who haven't felt a part of the church for years, perhaps because they're divorced and remarried "outside the church." If they want to go to Communion, Pecklers and his Eucharistic ministers smile and say, "The body of Christ." No one is asked first whether he or she is a Roman Catholic. "Jesus dined with publicans and sinners," says Pecklers. "Our table is open to everyone."I love doublethink.

I love doublethink. I think the ability to do it is a prerequisite to becoming a Jesuit these days.

Has anyone brought this to the attention of the bishop of the oratory's diocese?

They should re-do the first week of their own Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.

From the start, the community has worshiped with Rome's Anglicans, who attend some of Caravita's liturgies and scholarly lectures. In return, the Catholics take part in evening hymn services and concerts at the Anglicans' All Saints Church on the Via Babuino.
There ya go... Birds of a feather.

The people behind this sort of stuff eventually end up in ECUSA and cause more trouble (i.e. Matthew Fox).

Pecklers, 47, who teaches liturgy at the Gregorian University in Rome... The question is, why is he allowed to teach at Gregorian University in Rome, why is he given a position of authority that enables him to spread his error?

How is this a surprise to when some "theologians" can claim:
Dr. Hans Küng is a scholar of theology and philosophy and prolific writer. He studied philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University (Rome)
Or we find astonishingly enough:
Belgian Jesuit Fr. Jacques Dupuis is on leave from his teaching position at the Pontifical Gregorian University while he responds to Vatican objections to his book on religious pluralism
Or even that:
Accordingly, we approached Rev. Ladislas Orsy, S.J., Professor of Jurisprudence and Canon Law at Georgetown University Law School and asked him to serve as professional outside consultant to the leadership of Voice of the Faithful.
...
Fr. Orsy has a doctorate in Canon Law from the Gregorian University in Rome
So, then, why would anyone even NOTICE another "reformer" at Gregorian University?

So why aren't any pink slips being issued? Heck why don't they just close down the whole university until it can be staffed by faithful orthodox teachers? You have said many times that proper catechesis is the answer, how can we hope for that when the future leaders of the Church are being taught error by those in authority?

Did you read the story?
The last line talks about union of Catholics with Anglicans.

They'll fit right in with ECUSA. IIRC, the Jesuits have the highest AIDS rate of any of the religious orders.

"Pope John Paul II is the bishop of Rome. I doubt he would do anything"Yup! as per my tag line reference.
Perhaps someone can post a list of links that we can direct some emails to.
eg: Cdl Arinze, Cdl Ratzinger, etc.

"It's very Catholic," responded Keith Pecklers, the New York Jesuit priest who started the Caravita community in June of 2000.
Uh, if it's run by Jesuits, most like it ISN'T very Catholic.
What a disgrace this place sounds like.
To: Phx_RC
Yup! as per my tag line reference. Sorry about that. I had missed your tagline.

I didn't get that far...didn;t want the article to ruin my day.
I'm not surprised. Liberal Catholics love ECUSA's female clergy and permissive atmosphere on sexuality and marriage. Liberal ECUSAns love the Liberation Theology of the Catholic Church (which still persist, despite JP2) and its emphasis on the doctrinal authority of the contemporary church.
