THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LARRY KING, HOST: Tonight, evangelical superstar, Rick Warren in his first live prime time interview since that at heroic hostage, Ashley Smith read his best-seller, "The Purpose Driven Life" to the Atlanta courthouse killing suspect, Brian Nichols. Hours later, Nichols let her go and surrendered to police. What is "The Purpose Driven Life?" Pastor Rick Warren for the hour with your phone calls next on LARRY KING LIVE. He's just back from Africa, a return visit with Rick Warren, who has rapidly reappeared as one of the most famous names in America. He was on -- you see "Time" magazine with evangelics and America's 25 most influential. And look at the rebirth, how Jesus became Christ. Hail Mary on the front cover of "Time." And of course, people from hostage to hero, the story of Ashley Smith, which becomes partially the story of Rick Warren.

But actually, repent is the Greek word, metanoia (ph), which means literally "to change your mind." And it means that when I repent, I change my mind. First, I change my mind about God, I change my mind about myself, I change my mind about others, I change my mind about life. And a lot of people look at repentance as a negative thing, like I'm going to have to give up this, this, and this, and this, and like it's something terrible.****
This is is one thing that Warren and people like him say (and I've heard this by the local SBC pastor) that just sends up some red flags. To say that repentance is simply "to change your mind" sounds so very much like intellectual acknowledgement which I think most christians would agree is not the same a faith in Christ.
I've heard some evangelicals say that to become a christian you simply "change your mind" about who Christ was and that somehow makes you a christian (I'm not saying that Warren has said that but many local people who support the PDL movement have said that)
It just seems to me that repentance goes a little deeper than just "changing your mind".
That being said I agree with what Warren had to say about the Shiavo story and wow I never knew that Scott Peterson had a copy of PDL although I geuss he never read it) when he was arrested.
We just started a study on this book in my neighborhood a few weeks ago. Until then, I was the only person in America who had never heard of him or his book! :-) I think it is wonderful, and was just so happy to hear how it helped the kidnap victim. Incredible.

Great, while the leftist losers are making this fellow and his church the antichrist with their 2nd Timothyisms, the preaching of the Gospel can escalate through the Trinity Broadcasting Network, Lakewood Church, Breakthrough Ministries, and others.
Rick may be a 'nice' pastor but his books aren't worth writing home about unless you're writing home to say don't waste your money.
If you're studying his book you should take a look at these:

Bravo!
Uh, NO, he's taking a bashing for good reason. He minimizes important parts of the gospel, therefore rendering it 'another gospel' for those who have a leaning that way (that means just about everyone who isn't yet a believer in the inerrant Word).
See my post above for some good reviews of his books.
TBN preaches a false Gospel. About the only person on Trinity that preaches the Gospel is Kirk Cameron, last time I checked, and they bury him in the wee hours of the morning.
PING ya gotta read this one.
What he means by that (based on his teaching that I've heard) is that the Holy Spirit works in you to change how your mind works. It's not an intellectual thing, it's completely a spirit thing.
Hey, I listened to some excerpts from Rick Warren on Hardball last night. He was great. He is a solid conservative evangelical. It's too bad they naysayers are more interested in doctrinal perfection than in saving souls. Funny but that was the same attitude the pharisees had. Seems that things haven't changed that much in the last 2000 years.
I'm just having a ball today. They are coming out of the woodwork!
Saw Rick on Larry King last night. Still sounds like the same old Rick, but he really needs to do something with his hair. :-)
God solved that problem for my pastor 30 years ago.
Greg Laurie's your pastor? No kidding!
That's an excellent site!
Sorry! I didn't know that only worshipful opinions of Rick Warren were allowed. My bad! LOL!
No, feel free to ridicule him to your heart's content. It is my experience that most Rick Warren bashing comes from envy. Rick seems like a pretty humble guy, so your envy will not affect him negatively. He has a mission and it seems he's doing rather well in that endeavor.
You recognized him without his hair, huh?
There's a lot of Greg Laurie envy out there too. For fun I sometimes surf the internet for "Greg Laurie is the Anti-Christ" sites.
It's amazing how many there are.
