****WARREN: Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, everybody's heard the word "repent" and they don't really understand what the word means. For a lot of people, when they think of the word repentance, they think of a guy with a sandwich sign that says, "turn or burn," or, "you're going to die and fry."

But actually, repent is the Greek word, metanoia (ph), which means literally "to change your mind." And it means that when I repent, I change my mind. First, I change my mind about God, I change my mind about myself, I change my mind about others, I change my mind about life. And a lot of people look at repentance as a negative thing, like I'm going to have to give up this, this, and this, and this, and like it's something terrible.****

This is is one thing that Warren and people like him say (and I've heard this by the local SBC pastor) that just sends up some red flags. To say that repentance is simply "to change your mind" sounds so very much like intellectual acknowledgement which I think most christians would agree is not the same a faith in Christ.

I've heard some evangelicals say that to become a christian you simply "change your mind" about who Christ was and that somehow makes you a christian (I'm not saying that Warren has said that but many local people who support the PDL movement have said that)

It just seems to me that repentance goes a little deeper than just "changing your mind".

That being said I agree with what Warren had to say about the Shiavo story and wow I never knew that Scott Peterson had a copy of PDL although I geuss he never read it) when he was arrested.

What he means by that (based on his teaching that I've heard) is that the Holy Spirit works in you to change how your mind works. It's not an intellectual thing, it's completely a spirit thing.
