For all of you Rick Warren fans out there, did you happen to catch the interview with the Brian Nichols, ex-hostage Ashley Smith? She was reading "Purpose Driven Life" as part of her devotions and read part of chapter 33 to him and then asked him what he thought his purpose in life was. This was part of the discussion that convinced Nichols to give himself up. We should all have her boldness in the face of trials.
It came right up that time. My fingers must have suffered a sudden burst of dyslexia in all the excitement.
Well, thankfully you weren't the one in the apartment with Nichols. You might have tried to talk him down using a quote from Ricky Nelson.
;-)
Did I lose my temper?

Best to stay silent and thought to be a jerk than start typing and remove all doubt.
No, you haven't been here long enough.
You are voice of reason and hope. Well said.
As you can tell by this particular poster's inability to think.

"I believe God brought him to my door so he couldn't hurt anyone else," -Ashley Smith
y'all might want to rethink that - the KJV1611 originally included the Apocryphal texts
LOL!
Great line.
(There is a point at which "how salvation works" really does matter, but....great line anyway!:>)
"(There is a point at which "how salvation works" really does matter, but....great line anyway!:>)" Now that line will surely extend this thread another 200 posts.
Thank you for those excerpts! I've never read that book although I know a lot of people have read it.
I read Warren's book a few years back and it had some good tips in it. I may read through it again. It's been sitting on my shelf for quite a while.
How far does one take the separation from worldliness argument? My wife manages a primarily secular chain book store. Are her Bibles "tainted" for being a few feet away from a shelf of romance novels?
Is a Christian magazine printed on a Heidelberg press that last night was used for soft-core pornography less worthy of readership than one from a purer printer?
How about taking it out another "degree"?
Penthouse is printed on Weyerhauser Paper. Does that condemn any Christian publication that is published on paper from the same manufacturer? How about ink...
What part of "Autonymous Subsidiary" in the realm of American business is so hard to comprehend?
Is a person who goes to a local tavern to evangelize the lost less of a Follower of Jesus Christ than a person who chooses to avoid even the appearance of evil by being seen in such a location?
Points to Ponder...
The book is amazing. During a physical therapy session a couple of weeks ago I was rereading "Christianity With Power" by Kraft and the therapist wanted to know what it was about. I told her and she asked me if I had ever heard of "Purpose Driven something". She said reading it had changed her friends life. I told her I would bring her a copy at the next session. I gave it to her and she read the introduction and the first couple of chapters during the therapy session. When I called the next day to schedule the next session, she said she was looking for a church and reading the book.
It is an amazing introduction to Christ and His church and from my experience makes readers hungry and thirsty for more.
I'll be the first to admit that there is more to the scriptures than some of these folks delve into, but as a primer for people to be exposed or a pick me up for those who have become disallusioned, these ministries are exposing more people to Christ than most of the hard headed "christians" out there mocking or worse the works of Warren and others.
If prosperity ministry is the same as prosperity theology, then "Purpose Driven Life" is not prosperity theology....not even close.
Also, it's full of scripture.
