Purpose Driven Life

Posted on 03/14/2005 10:28:37 AM PST by blue-duncan

For all of you Rick Warren fans out there, did you happen to catch the interview with the Brian Nichols, ex-hostage Ashley Smith? She was reading "Purpose Driven Life" as part of her devotions and read part of chapter 33 to him and then asked him what he thought his purpose in life was. This was part of the discussion that convinced Nichols to give himself up. We should all have her boldness in the face of trials.

So, Rick Warren, not Jesus, saved this woman's life! Astounding.

She said she read him the first paragraph of Ch. 33. Anyone have that book who's willing to type it out for us?

The cult-ish, fad-ish devotion to "Purpose-Driven Life." One would think that Christians never heard of the A-B-C's of devotion to Jesus Christ before Rick Warren popped up.

If that's what you see written there, then your perspective is certainly different than my own.

After hearing about what this young woman has been through, that's all you have to say? I'm really disappointed in you.

No, she used her Bible and the book (a tool) to bring the man to his senses, just like we use the Bible and the book to reach people for the Lord and to spur each other on "to love and good works".

Maybe Jesus saved her life using Rick Warrens book.

The cult-ish, fad-ish devotion to "Purpose-Driven Life."

I have never met anyone who thought anything remotely like that about this fine book which has helped people to refocus their faith.

One would think that Christians never heard of the A-B-C's of devotion to Jesus Christ before Rick Warren popped up.

You are screwed up to the extreme.

One more comment; Have you read the book?

From "The Internet Monk" --

A story on franchised churches, a personal question that is really troubling me, and a few thoughts on "What is Faith?"

This is the future.

What is to stop a "Rick Warren Purpose Driven Church" from opening up in every mall in America?

If you used to think of a congregation as a group of people who believed the same thing.....think again. These churches are now made up of people who have all BOUGHT the same thing. Doctrine and theology will be sliced so thin that it will be invisible. Full service programs, high tech entertainments, lots of age-grouped goodies: Get ready for the Total Package Church. Only a fool wouldn't go.

What the Southern Baptist Convention and every other denomination never anticipated: Denominations based on doctrine and practice are now being replaced by franchises connected by the templates of style, technology, personalities and market niche. The Christian is now a customer, and the product is in marketing high-gear.

It's the end of the world as we know it. In an evangelicalism where methodology writes theology, where will it all end? Get on this train and you'll find out. Brands. Not Churches, but brands.

Thanks for the positive comment on a faithful servant's willingness to witness. As Jesus commanded: Feed My Sheep. Rick Warren's book is a brilliant and blessed work. It contains a fresh look at the purpose that God made us for. This book stands above many other Christian books because of its solid focus on the Bible and consistent laying out of God's Word.

Rick Warren has a lot of "New Age" view points.
What is even more troubling is that he uses Zondervan publishing.
What most people do not know is that Zondervan publishing was acquired by Rupert Murdoch in 1988 and Zondervan is a subsiderary of Harper Collins.
Harper Collins is the publisher of the Satanic Bile along many other lesbian and homosexual books and also publishes Seventeen Magazine.
Zondervan now owns the rights to the NIV Bible and has consulted with Virginia Mollenkott a lesbian to edit and make changes.
There has been over 60,000 words removed from the NIV in comparison with the KJV.
We all need to be very careful of what Zondervan publishes from now on. (Matthew 7:16-23)
You will know them by their deeds.
do not ever pick grapes from thorn bushes,or figs from prickly plants? Never!
Any sound tree bears good fruit, while decayed tree bears bad fruit.A sound tree cannot bear bad fruit any more than a decayed tree can bear good fruit.Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
You can tell a tree by its fruit.None of those who cry out,Lord,Lord will enter the kingdom of God but only the one who does the will of my father in heaven.
When the day comes many will plead with me,Lord,Lord, have we not prophesied in your name?.Have we not exorcised demons by its power? Did we not do many miracles in your name as well?
Then I will declare to them solemnly,I never knew you,Out of my sight evildoers!!

You are profoundly clueless.

I'm still waiting for the answer to the question; HAVE YOU READ THE BOOK?

This vulnerable lady, who lost her husband to violence, and if you follow the articles, may have lost control of her daughter, still in the face of danger has the presence of mind to use the tools that God has given her, even "Purpose Driven Life", to witness to this violent man. And God honors this faith by bringing Nichols to his senses. The Kingdom of God is among us.
