Is this kind of Christianity Christian? By Joan Chittister, OSB The problem with the political agenda of the Radical Right is not that they're wrong. Who isn't concerned about the so-called "moral values" on which this last presidential election is said to have hinged.

The Problem with Sr. Chittister is that she left Roman Catholicism a long long long time ago.
Congressman Billybob
She still has a very significant following among the "peace and love" crowd. I think it's a shame because it's very difficult to take Catholic teachings on many social issues seriously when they are espoused (and often "explained") primarily by people who do not believe in the teaching authority of the Church at all. Sr. Joan is near the top of the list.
"Do Christians of the radical right really want their grandchildren reading from the Koran or the Vedas or the Flower Sutras for morning prayer?"
What is wrong with the faux Christians that they consider adherence to God's Word as "radical"?
"And if not, what will those same Christians do when school boards under different ethnic influences require them?"
Now that IS an interesting question. The answer is that society could protect itself from the increase in non-Christian "minorities". But then -- that's the whole point isn't it?
Nosir, I read the article too, and you missed nothing that I could see. Glad to see that they're still tilting at the same windmmills.
God gave us each free will. Because of free will, we are able to formulate our own thoughts and ideas and believe whatever we want to believe. The obvious danger is that each person can then decide what is right and what is wrong. What may be right for one person, may be wrong for another. What is wrong for one person, may be right for another. It is chaos! We are each left up to our own imaginations and there is NO absolute right or wrong.
That is one reason God gave us His Word. So that we each don't have to try and figure out what is right and what is wrong. God's Word represents ABSOLUTE TRUTH, and is the final authority in all matters of life. Of course, people still have the free will to decide for themselves what they want to believe, but just because someone decides to reject God's Word, makes it no less true.
Brings to mind a very good point driven home by our priest this afternoon at Mass.
He pointed out the religion of "secularism" plaguing our country. He specifically sited the leaking "like a gas" of "new ageism and personal 'spirituality' in our Church. Namely, as he put it, "narcissism," within many, perfering the "do it yourself and trust man" way, as opposed to full trust in God.
He followed up, with something brilliant I thought, in this light: "Tolerance is something that happens to one who loses their priniciples."
These "faux Christians" you mention what it their own way, and will try any which way but loose to have it their way, and not follow God.

Moron Quiz:
This will be more likely to happen if
A. American society and government reflect Christian moral values,
B. Christians remove their beliefs from politics, leaving a political vacuum.
Let's see, where have they followed this heretic witch's advice?
A. The United States of America
B. France
Now, which country is dominated by political leaders to cowardly to oppose dhimmitude, who instead ban Christian expression?
A. The United States of America
B. France
Ya know, there was a time when I considered people like this witch (and I mean the term literally) to be simply naive fools who were just too soft-hearted to use their brains.
I now have come to believe that what drives such an intellectually dishonest column is pure hatred.
Sister Christine is a feminist and the Vatican has called her a source of scandal to the faithful.
Uh, the typical litany of the evil in religion.
"Sister," it was "religion" (Christianity) that ended slavery in those parts of the world where Christianity had an influence.
It was "religion" (Christianity)through missionaries and Christian institutions that helped provide increased health and living standards for hundreds of millions of people throughout the world.
It is "religion" (Christianity) that provides countless amounts of money to care for the sick, the homeless, the starving, the widowed, the orphaned throughout the world.
It was "religion" (Christianity)that helped establish women's rights.
It was and is "religion" (Christianity) that has fought against racial prejudice.
It was and is "religion" (Christianity) that has provided the basis for democratic institutions.
Let me guess: Half the congregation (all female) then walked out.
One thing I have to say about this article - has this person not read the First Ammendment? 'Separation of Church and State' was a phrase coined by the ACLU, NOT the CONSTITUTION! These types of people, standing behind Christianity, are the very ones giving Christians a bad name. Perhaps she should pick up the Bible, learn the TRUTH, and READ THE CONSTITUTION! Come on chick - our Forefathers had a direction for this country, and we are definetly NOT on that path! Thanks for the info! Kimberly
Wrong. This was not a Novus Ordo mass. It was a Tridentine Mass.
I was one of those females who thought it was brilliant, and actually jotted it down on the back of a blank offering envelope, lol.
Ah, sister Joan Chittister the anti-hierarchical dissident who believes that being pro-life is contrary to Christian social teaching. Her endless complains against the Church and its teachings, and her left-leaning politics are an embarrassment to true Catholics.
Is this the former nun who sends out all kinds of junk mail? We get something from her once in awhile, usually pretty leftist and sick.
Former nun? Interesting... she still uses the title of a member of a Benedictine order.
Not sure if this is the one, but I got a lot of junk mail from a "sister" that sounded an awful lot like this one. Kind funny how a Lutheran would get on the mailing list.
First off, the nun is dressed in drag. I'm sorry, but I know that many nuns dress "modestly" in a manner that doesn't exactly highlight their feminity. (Why they don't simply wear a habit if they are going to violate social norms so radically, I don't know.) But this nun is simply dressed in a drag. that sports jacket she is wearing is something John Derbyshire, or Victor David Hansen would wear; it is not the suit jacket of a porfessional woman.
Secondly, her convent's publication has some titles they should avoid. The feature article is "Nuns, Out and About." Surely they understand what "out" means in the present culture. This from a magazine mysteriously named, "Mount."
