I Demand An Explanation From God
Posted on 12/29/2004 10:55:49 AM PST by GunnyBob
Sorry for being an arrogant, pretentious ass, but I want an explanation from God as to why he/she felt it was necessary to kill what is expected to be 100,000 people, probably more, especially in so nasty a fashion and especially when tens of thousands of the victims were children who never hurt anyone.
I've seen you do many horrific things in my lifetime, including what happens to innocent people's bodies in war, but this time you crossed the friggin' line.
If you are reading this, God, I require an explanation...and an apology.

"Has GunnyBob responded to anyone yet or did he toss a grenade and skedaddle?"
Hmm. If so, maybe someone will consider all profundity of many of the posts I've found in here nonetheless.

I am really confused. Some "believers" say God does not control the natural disasters but others say He does. Which is it?

Being an atheist also means never having to say you're sorry since you have no moral compass whatsoever except yourselfThat's a load of crap. I have a friend who's an atheist and he is one of the kindest, most decent people I know. And, he doesn't need the threat of eternal damnation held over his head to be that way, he choses to be that way on his own. Not everyone needs the proverbial carrot on a stick to lead a good life.
To: cyborg
Then God is himself evil for making this happen.
To claim that this calamity is in any way a "good" thing is to be either insane or brainwashed.

He created the earthquake... Then you accept that God created the heavens and the earth? And everything on it? And man? In His own image?
Or just the earthquake?

The first thing God wants is for us to love Him. But how can you love a being you fear? Or a diety that would kill you in a heartbeat? Or a God that would play with your life like a game of tiddly winks (a al Job)?
I am really struggling trying to find much even likable about God. Demanding love while acting like a big bully is, well, evil.
And the last time I asked a priest these questions, I ended up married to him. Fat lot of good it did me ;)

I was not addressing that freeper personally. I was making a general statement. Why is your friend kind? Why is he decent? Don't get angry at me for pointing out the obvious. The fact is that atheism has never succeeded as a predominant religion and certainly has not ever advanced civilization ANYWHERE. Did I say anything about eternal damnation? No I didn't.

While He is controlling the natural disasters, he can step in and control your personal disasters, too. Hmmm? But judgement for that will come eventually. You should be glad He is patiently waiting for all who would choose Him.
Besides, it is only a disaster if you believe this life is all there is. In which case, you don't believe in God and have no need to blame Him.

I never said it was a good thing. I never made that claim. You need to study the Bible and ask God these questions with an open mind.

"If you are reading this, God, I require an explanation...and an apology."
G-D owes us nothing--we owe everything.
Tragedy strikes sometimes. I suffered a Spinal Cord injury that left me asking (repeatedly) 'WHY'
After a while (and a lot of setbacks) I realised that I could either self-destruct--or get on with it.
I had to thank G-D that I was still alive and use what heppened to me to perhaps help others that have the same problem. After all, I was NOT dead.
Granted, life is a lot different than before I was hurt. I DO miss doing all that I did. But, I llok at what has happened that might not have heppened if I had not gotten badly injured.
I was told (by Former Dodger) of Free Republic, and this is where I have met a great numer of magnificent people whom I feel honoured to be able to know.
This is but one of the many blessing I have....
All you do is open your eyes to see them.

I am a Christian, but I have known some atheists who were moral and prudent people. A couple of them actually operated Christian principles(honesty, generosity, modesty, etc.) more faithfully than some Christians I know.
I'm not saying that atheism is a good thing. I'm just saying that I've met a few who have not realized yet that God has touched their hearts.
