Where does the term "Abba Father" come from? I've never heard of that.

"Abba" is the sound of the Hebrew word for "father". I have no idea why this word would be transliterated while others are translated.

See Comment #1.

I'm not sure of this, but I believe "Abba" is Aramaic (Hebrew?) for a personal, affectionate way of referring to your father, as in our English word, "Daddy." I further understand that Jesus used Abba to refer to His Father in heaven and invites us to do the same. Just think-- the creator of everything that ever was and ever will be invites us to climb up onto His lap and call Him Daddy! I receive great comfort from this......

Mark 14:36 "Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

Many of us Proddies invoke that image in prayer and the following Hymn:

Arise, My Soul, Arise (Charles Wesley)

1. Arise, my soul, arise,
shake off your guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice,
in my behalf appears;
Before the throne my Surety stands,
Before the throne my Surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.

Chorus: Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise
Arise, my soul, arise.
Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise
Arise, my soul, arise.
Shake off your guilty fears and rise

2. He ever lives above,
for me to intercede;
His all redeeming love,
His precious blood, to plead;
His blood atoned for every race,
His blood atoned for every race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

3. Five bleeding wounds He bears;
received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers;
they strongly plead for me:
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"Nor let that ransomed sinner die!"

4. The Father hears Him pray,
His dear anointed One;
He cannot turn away
the presence of His Son;
The Spirit answers to the blood,
The Spirit answers to the blood
And tells me I am born of God.

5. My God is reconciled;
His pardoning voice I hear;
He owns me for His child;
I can no longer fear
With confidence I now draw nigh,
With confidence I now draw nigh,
And "Father, Abba, Father," cry.

I would say that reply is about the best answer you could get for "Abba Father" Abba is literally Daddy in Hebrew and Jesus' instructed us to call God the Father "Abba"

It is also according to what I have been taught one of the first words the Israelite children learned to say.
