Just to clarify: An "oxymoron" is different from an oxymormon, right?
[I happen to be the latter.]

Yes, oxymorons are not oxymormons in my understanding.
I will refrain from asking what an oxymormon might be.

So even if we were to arbitrarily throw out 90% of the Protestant denominations as "without distinction", that still leaves 3,000 denominations. (3,001 per Barnacle.) And my point about only one being possibly valid still stands, regardless of the final count, no?And since you personally decided on the 90% and the 3,000, that makes it so much better than the 13 found in the text.
Or maybe 13 jumped to 3,000. Eh? Is that what you say? How about if you go read the book for actual content rather than aha! statistics?
Next week I might be about to check myself what the new edition says.

This entire thread puts me in mind of New Year's Day.
I had finally figured out how to post an article from my lame web-tv, so I brazenly put up a story about how some survivors of 9-11 were offended by the self-serving Rose Bowl float Disney had concocted for the parade -- a 10-story, carnation-clad replica of their latest thrill ride, "Towering Something-or-Other," which had little to do with the 2004 theme of "Music, Music, Music."
I awaited applause for my earnest efforts...and waited...and waited...
Finally, someone came on and trashed the thread and me, complaining about "whiners who can't let go."
I tried to explain it wasn't so much the 9-11 angle as Disney's incredible arrogance that seemed so offensive, but freepers would have none of it.
The thread quickly spun out of control, soon becoming one enormous ravaging of those I had sought to help.
Moral of the story -- you can't control what other people think and say unless you hit them over the head with a lamp and cover the body with a rug.

predestined according to God's infinite foreknowledge. No, counselor. Predestined according to God's sovereign will.
If God had wanted it to occur differently, it would have occurred differently.
New thread; same old error.

web-tv??? Shame on you Dr. E!

The only things that have gotten me in more flame wars than the religion threads are Disney, Harry Potter and Ritalin (discussing, not taking).

Since this country was founded by Christians, and this is a conservative forum, why should we be concerned whether those of non-Judeao/Christian beliefs be driven away?Because the Christians who founded this country didn't write the first amendment just for Christians. They didn't think it was wise to drive away non-Christians. Neither should we.
Is the purpose of the Religon forum for evangelical prostelyzing? It shouldn't be.
The purpose of the Religion forum is what its participants decide it is - as long as its done with decency and decorum.
I'd much rather debate someone who has a passion for his/her beliefs than a post-modern pussy.
You have one chance to convince me that the last word in this sentence was not selected to push my buttons.

You just pingged yourself. Is that allowed? Why not? It's easy, fun and fat free. And best of all violates no Bilical principles!
Here's a better question. What's this about a swarm? Are you a Apitherapist?
Nah, I hate pain. What I do like is a tall glass of Hefe on a hot Texas day.
Like Ben Franklin once said: "Beer is proof that God lives us and wants us to be happy."

Well the Catholics better hurry up.
With only 220 distinct Catholic denominations they have a long way to go!

Mea culpa. I "lost" the proper terminology when roughing out the first draft, used "New Age" as a substitute place marker, but then forgot to go back and change it before posting. No slur or insult intended. Forgive me.

Your #334 is close enough for government work, with the exception that it is not our desire to drive people away. We're hoping that everyone will simply learn to live by the rules of the forum.
